Looks like 1958 was a very good year, so today I bit the bullet, and ordered:

It was made in April of that year, serviced by Questar in 1970s, so the leather case isn't original. But it includes the documentation with notes written in by the first owner - a bonus for this historian. Now I have at least three scopes older than myself. With my birthday in two weeks, using these vintage instruments to capture ancient light feels like renewal.

    Bob,
I remember drooling over the Questar ads in Sky & Tel back in the old days but was never was able to afford one.

What tripod is that under it? It looks very substantial and as though it was made for the Questar.

Lotsa luck and clear skies with yours.

It's a 1950s/60s Davis & Sanford with wheels and floating head.

I started to pull the trigger on the Quantum 4 on the CN Classifieds, then I saw this one.

My Debbie tells me where to go all the time, but there's no observing from there...

UPS says it'll be here on Friday. Naturally, NWS forecasts rain for the whole weekend...

So we will be patiently waiting for the arrival report, sucker hole report and finally a real star report.

When I was in first grade, my Mom drove a '58 Chevy convertible in candy apple red. It's long gone, but at least I'll get to take this '58 for a spin now & again!

She arrived today - just ahead of the thunderstorms! Here's the unofficial photo, with my grandparents' 80 year old radio:

So funny! "Arrived just before the thunder storms" Always seems to be case, I think everyone in Calif, needs to buy a Classic Telescope so we can get some much needed RAIN!!!!

Well when it dries out Robert let us know how well she works and also I would like to know what you think of it practical viewing capabilities. Looks like a Pluto killer!!
