I have just been doing some reading about the father of neoplatonism, plotinus, and realised that to put it in perspective the light from deneb would just have been departing that star around about the time he was teaching in Rome. That's assuming that the Hippocratos satellite has got denebs distance correct as there seems much debate as to how far other stars are but generally they agree that deneb is the most remote first magnitude star.plotinus seems to have believed that stars, and planets, had souls because they moved.now if a boulder rolled down a hill would it be ensouled or alive?
