As we all know Celestron has 4 models representing their SE series of telescopes -- 4SE/5SE/6SE AND 8SE.

My question is: Do they use the same mount with all 4 of these scopes? If not how many mounts are there?
I have read albeit not substantiated that the mounts for the 6SE and 8SE are the same but then others say the mount base is larger for the 8SE.

So what is the story about these mounts?

    thanks

There are 2 SE mounts, one for the 4/5 and one for the 6/8.

That said; keep in mind the mount sold with the 6" OTA may have a small cosmetic plastic bezel that you have pop off if you want to mount an 8.

I purchased a standalone, SE mount but still have never used it. Mainly because I also have a Nexstar GT mount which.is considerably lighter

The GT mount easily accommodates my 90 MM achro, 80ED and Starmax 90

however, my preferred mount is a Starsense explore DX

At some point I would like to upgrade my Porta with an Alt-Az that would hold a 102 f10

The SE 4/5 used to come with a built in wedge, not sure if they still do. They are more stable than the GT/ SLT mounts.
I have had a SLT for 20 years now and it still works as new. Celestron actually got things right with these mounts.

I thought of purchasing a SE at one point but with the straight arm it would restrict the movement with a longer refractor.
