Double transits of Io and Europa across Jupiter, shot just after midnight with the Orion Deep Space Video Camera II through the Orion 127mm Mak. Io's shadow is more prominent on the left, on the upper belt. Europa's shadow is smaller and is located on the extreme upper right of Jupiter (above the belt); it peeks in and out because of the less-than-optimal seeing. Also, enjoy some original space music by my band, THE FALSE DAWN, La Langue des Sentiments (The Language of Feeling).

    Clear skies!

    I reiterate:

That has a 'Spirit' in it, Reggie. It truly sends one to it's home-territory (apologies for lousy translations to that which is 'ineffable' by it's very nature).

It's like one 'feels' the whole 'gestalt' of our Humanity moving out towards the planets and, by proxy, the Stars.

Looking foreward to your next mix!

Wado, brother! I dig the gestalt reference. Me and the band were going for that vibe when we composed the music. I think it really envelops you, like how we are enveloped, and yet not separate from, the cosmos. Great call, Dave! ;)

Thanks, Ed! The music felt just right for the occasion. I like posting video so I can add the music and depict the real-time motion of the Earth. Are you going to image a double transit? There's a couple of opportunities next weekend. Here's a link with details about a series of upcoming double transits on Jupiter in the next few weeks:

It's a great imaging op; I would love to see any shots you get.

    Cheers,
    Reggie

    Hi Reggie,

Thanks for the heads up on the upcoming double transits. I would like to image that, especially with the 6" Mak. It would make a nice addition to the images of Jupiter I have for 2017.

There are a couple of double transit ops this coming weekend:
    • May 26 @ 1:47 AM EDT
    • May 27 @ 8:16 PM EDT
I'll probably just do visual for these. Hope you can get some good shots!
Right now, I'm taking a little break as rain rolls in for the next few days. I have color video of the double transits, replete with original atmospheric music from my band, The False Dawn, that I may post, soon.

    Cheers,
    Reggie

Reggie, I'll be curious to see what you can get for the May 27th one. It'll still be quite light out on the east coast, and I'm wondering if it will decrease your ability to pick up contrast.

Hi, Jon. I'm probably not going to get to image that one. Hopefully, I can get to the scope. :)
