Anyone tried using a monopod for giant binoculars? I discovered a site 'binocular sky'in which the author describes using a monopod successfully with a pair on 15x70 Helios binoculars. It looks like a swivel head is needed and observing best done sitting down the monopod twixt your knees.a monopod is 2 legs short of a tripod so less weight and less space taken up plus the less able could use it as a walking cane on rough ground.I'd plan to mount my Russian Tento 20x60s thus.less weight and size than the 15x70s but more power so more shake.

Friend of mine made his own from a floor-mop! He left most of the mop itself intact for comfort. Granted - his bino-monopod doesn't also do duty in cleaning floors.

....and bad news if you mop a floor with the binoculars still on the end!

Yes it should be fine for 20x60s if you can hold bigger 15x70s still on it.you can use walls, clothes lines, etc,as improvised mounts but there isn't always anything convenient. Binoculars like 15x70 and 20x60 are just too big and powerful to hand hold unless you lie down on your back and let you head take the weight even then each heart beat causes a jump....and do you want to spend the whole evening just looking at the canopy?
