I was on a short evening stroll earlier and the moon was creating a very nice halo, the clouds must have been fairly thick as the moon was the only celestial object visible, I'm pretty sure I could make out rainbow like colours in the halo.they where much fainter than a rainbow.

We get some really beautiful Moons up here in the North Country. I try to keep a camera on hand, but not often enough - of course. But I do manage to get some interesting effects. Here's one from a little Canon PowerShot 1000 -

    I find this rather haunting.

Thanks for jarring my memory, Kevan. Our Moon is full of surprises - all we need do is LOOK UP!

Try for moonbows. They're like rainbows but made by the moon.they only one I've seen, apart from photos, was on a beach a few years back when the full moon was boring through fog.they're like rainbows but much smaller and mainly white.I can't remember what time of year it was seem to recall it was cold.

Yes, I've been fortunate enough to see a few of those before. They are caused by ice-crystals in the upper-atmosphere. Truly a beautiful phenomena!

I really need to learn to park my Canon next to my keys!

Atmospheric phenomenon are fascinating. I remember I once saw four amazing sundogs creating a cross around the sun from a train window. Those of a religious inclination may have dropped to their knees in pray!however I looked around the train to see if anyone else was looking but no they where all gazing at their phones!

My first sundog nearly knocked my eyes out of my skull! I was 30 at the time, and that was the first. Looking like a rainbow-apparition of the Sun in the sky!

Yes - I can see how religious zealots could bruise their patella's upon witnessing these things.... :p Now to find a way to cash in on these phenomena! :D

Sundogs combined with hysteria could be the source of such religious visions?interestingly I once ate a carrot and bit it into to see Arabic writing inside it!it knocked me back a bit at the time but pretty sure that it looked Arabic but probably would have not matched any Arabic writing had I known the language other than at a superficial level and was the internals of the carrot.

Arabic written in a carrot?! Now that is a new one on me! The Holy Carrot! Did you charge money to people who came to view this 'Sign From Allah?' :p

But seriously, similar phenomena I have seen. Such as people using MDMA have reported seeing Chinese writing on the walls. I asked these folks to copy it down after I separated them so they couldn't copy each other. And it matched. I didn't bother to have it checked to see if it had meaning, but it matching alone was fascinating. It seems they found themselves channeling the 'collective unconscious' as postulated by C.G. Jung. A field of interest to me.

I remember a story of a women who had Elvis living in an old jar of mayonnaise living in her refridgerator. She did charge money to visit the "King of the Cosmic Yolks" though.

The writing was around the inner core of the carrot.it didn't convert me as I kept on eating it after examing it!god failed! I think the human mind is programmed to make sense of random images and construct patterns out of them which is where our constellations come from.I'd read about messages from god in Arabic in aubergines, tomatos and other fruit and vegetables before so I'm a way it gave me rationale behind what I saw.much like the sun dogs forming a cross would influence the pious. Images of the Virgin Mary on windows are reasonable common and not very convincing. The one I saw in a church in Florida looked like the residue of window cleaner...... Which is just what it was!another strange one was a cross which was said to bleed in Pietermaritzburg, south Africa, it was made from wood from the battle of delville wood,Belgium or France, in world war one,1916 I think, in which a large number of south Africans died.the blood was pine residue and I collected some but have long since lost it.

Human-Mind tries to make sense out of chaos. And chaos has a strange way of being found in even a blank screen. If you sit in front of a smooth, white wall for awhile - you'll start to see 'patterns' on it. It's like kids seeing things like dragons and knights in armor on horseback and so forth, in puffy, white clouds. Somewhere down the road we (usually) manage to 'close the valve' and forget about these things. Sometimes they break through anyways - and depending on the mind - and all Hell breaks out!

    .....I'll go away now.....<slam!>

My dad had a period of listening to blank cassette tapes and claimed to have heard voices in the white noise.naturally it's nonsense our minds just construct a word out of random noise.you couldn't do it now with CD's and more modern equivalents.likewise out of tune TV's you can see faces in the flickering but I don't think modern flat TV's do this just tube ones?

Geeze Kevan - I was just thinking about your tale of the Arabic-Carrot...

Have you ever considered a career in politics? Perhaps a presidential run based on your keen ability to detect enemy-terrorists inside vegetables? Tell the People how crafty they are - to be smuggled in from Mexico inside produce? And only a man like you can find them?

    My God man - you'd be a shoe-in! <never mind where>

LOL! Oh I shouldn't laugh! Considering what's going on now.....Can I manage your run? Please?

    :D  :D

....and eating God too!I can only quote Ian Fleming in doctor No, "he disagreed with something that ate him....!" Not sure if that line made it to the film?

The handiwork of the cosmic trickster.........but to what end?I saw a UFO as a lad, about 8?,a large ring that flew overhead in fact the whole school yard saw it including a trainee teacher. But was it a craft?probably not?I rather have my doubts that anything has done any interstellar travel because of the huge distances involved. So back to some kind of weird demiurge figure introducing unusualness for reasons unknown?

I remember "No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!" When he was about to be cut in half by a laser-beam. I think that was Dr. No. I'm not a big Bond-fan.

I think it may have been doctor no,something to do with Chinese agents? The novels are much darker. Ian Fleming lived in Jamaica and was wondering what to call his mi6 agent before him was a book 'the birds of Jamaica'author James bond!
