I see that Juno has experienced the pioneer effect. As pioneer 10 and 11 headed out system NASA's experts noted that they where going slower than expected. However voyager 1 and 2 didn't display the pioneer effect. NASA concluded that a heat source in the pioneers was creating a breaking effect,I'd guess by recoil since how do you break in a near vacuum at close to 0 kelvin? This would mean that Juno was built with the same defect as the pioneer probes or that NASA are wrong over the cause. I haven't read if New horizons displayed this effect too.I suppose the alternative might be space is not a void but contains a something, leading us back to the cosmic aether of old?!

    Orion25 and Mmac54 like this.

The Pioneer Effect was noticed when Pioneer 10 & 11 were leaving the solar system. Juno is in Jupiter orbit and no plans for it to leave - instead will crash into Jupiter. I'm not seeing any news on this related to Juno. Do you have a link?

Got it!google Juno fly by anonomaly and an article from 'universe today'from 6 days back should come up.the anonomaly happened on a much grander scale for the pioneers as their trip was/is much further probably eternal!

It would appear many probes have experienced the pioneer anonomaly. It was first detected when the pioneers where about as far out as Uranus's orbit although they didn't visit that world.it has never really been explained but leads some to postulate dark matter in the interplanetary medium could be causing it?

I believe it has been explained as anisotropic radiation pressure.

I think that was the original NASA theory. The plutonium cores in the pioneers caused a forward momentum hitting the ships body causing a breaking effect? But I don't think anyone really knows why the pioneer anonomaly occurs and most theories are educated guesses?

I don't honestly know, but I'm fairly sure it's still NASA's official explanation, and can even be calculated as an effect.

    Got it. Thanks.

    News Article - https://www.universetoday.com/137984/juno-isnt-exactly-supposed-flyby-anomaly-back-happen/

And if you want the full scientific paper - https://arxiv.org/pdf/1711.08893.pdf

From my reading of this they are not attributing what is happening to Juno as what occurred on the Pioneers, and that as they say: "the Pioneer anomaly was resolved". So something else. Basically is looking like a small adjustment to General Relativity models may be needed as this anomaly appears to be dependent on the ratio between the spacecraft’s radial velocity and the speed of light. Rocket science really is Rocket Science!
