I was reading that the light polluted Netherlands is thinking about trails of red streetlights!now as much as I hate streetlights I fear that it would not work as I have tried to find my way in woods using red torchlight and would say it is only a bit better than nothing. I have never tried green light,a colour favoured by animal watchers.many astronomical lasers use green light to point out stars, etc, although astronomers seem to be divided on these many regarding them as a nuisance and light pollution.the Netherlands idea was to reduce the deaths of insects around white and yellow streetlights which is reducing the bat population, less food for the bats.

An interesting idea depending on what brightness they would be using.

I flew over the Netherlands, Holland technically refers to the north of said nation,a few days back enroute Muscat London crossing them at about 1740 on an air Oman Boeing 787.very light polluted down there,so many lit roads in unihabited areas making me wonder why cars have lights afixed to them? I pity those with an interest in astronomy down there.belgium looks as bad too.even the coast offers no escape as I've walked the whole of the Belgian coast from de panne, the only place in Belgium not captured by the Germans in WW1,on the French border to the Dutch border and it's all built up with the exception of the little bit between oostende and de haan (the hen).it took 2 days and if I recall is 84km. I had a near full moon during the trip.

Being in central Europe we just name the light domes by country instead of saying city, shopping mall, auto dealer :)
