I have been having nothing but problems this year trying to get nice planetary images like those of previous years. Initially I was unhappy with this image and was going to trash the files. Last night I took eight captures, four in RGB and four in 695nm IR. Good thing I didn't trash this image because all of the ones from last night were horrible. With a bit of tweaking in GIMP I was able to come up with this:

Considering all the problems you've had, that's pretty good Ed. There is some detail. If north is up I can actually see a faint trace of what may be a remnant of the northern polar hood. Or at least faint clouds.

Nice image, Ed. Significant detail there. I wish I could see more detail in my eyepiece.

I like the picture also, it's pretty clean in fact. More then that, the amount of details is crazy impressive.

Trying to identify the features now with my picture card, I think for the darker region you have Solis Lacus, M. Sirenum, Mare sirenium, Mare Erythraeum.

I think Olympus is visible also in the Amazonis Planitia regions.

    Very rich.
