Anyone had any experience of the sky watcher infinity 76m(about 3") reflector?sometimes marketed as a childrens telescope but quite popular with adults. It may be sold under various brands and indeed there's no manufactures name on mine only on the original box.it's similar to the old edmundson scientific telescope with a globe bottom and a cradle for it to rotate in. One problems I had was the mirror was covered with protective paper and there's no way to remove it without forcing your hand down the tube which could knock the secondary mirror out of alignment and there doesn't seem to be a way to re colimate it if you do so although there are 3 screws on the rear of the secondary.the eye piece is 30x giving a pretty narrow field of view on a 76mm mirror,I'm told 15xand 50x eye pieces can be bought too.it is big but would be easy to carry in an empty 35 litre back pack.sadly due to the long day light at this time of year I've not had a chance to try this device.

I don't know anything about the scope. Did you buy it new? If so I would contact the retailer or manufacturer.

Is the paper mentioned in the instructions?

Seems they forgot to remove the protective paper when they assembled it. Can you reach in with some kind of long pliers or something like that, grab a corner and remove the paper?

I bought it new via the internet as I was looking for a portable telescope. I has quite good reviews. I don't know if the protection over the mirror was left on or if it was ment to be taken off by the maker, I suspect that it was ment to be left on to protect the mirror?it's marketed as an astronomical telescope but has erecting lenses which is strange and loses more light from the all ready tiny 76mm mirror. The eye piece mine came with is 30x but I'm told 15x and 50x are available. Due to such long days at this time of year I haven't had a chance to try it much.

Are they 1.25" eyepieces or .965 eyepieces?

There are be plenty of either available. I have a 76 mm reflector, an old Tasco that was given to me. 700 mm FL. It uses .965 eyepieces I have 40 mm and 12.5 mm for it as well as a 2.5X barlow. I know there are other eyepieces available that would also work in any .965 focuser.

If it uses 1.25s then there are a world of options.

The sky watcher infinity uses an unusual 1.25 eye piece with groves in it which rotate guided by plugs in the side tube.I'm told if you file down the plugs normal 1.25 eye pieces can be used but focusing is slack I suppose you'd have to use a bit of folded paper to hold the eye piece still?
