Just been reading a book 'the science of dune'.it's interesting that James Herbert chose,as the home stars of arrakis and caladan, stars he could never have seen from Seattle in the far north west, well far north west if you exclude the exclave of Alaska!,of the USA. Canopus, alpha carinae, might just rise around San Francisco and delta pavonis is way south doubt you'll see that from even Acapulco. Acanar, alpha eridanus, is way down too might pop up San Diego way?I have a strong affection for canopus for when it pops up I know new exotic skies are beginning but sadly I haven't seen it since I was in New Zealand in January 2017.

I tried to read Dune once. I've read a lot of sci fi, but I couldn't get my head around Dune and it ended up as door stop after a couple of chapters.

The movie was even more confusing. o_O

There's 2 dune films and the David lynch one is the best known staring sting.I didn't realise that canopus is a yellow/white star.we've only recently got a distance to it looks to be around 310 light years.probably not a good star for an inhabited planet?plus those white stars have short lives,we think!
