No frills or sunspots, just a memento as this is the first image I was able to take of the sun at the instant of transition from winter to spring at 11:33 a.m. EDT on 2022-03-20:

Well done, Reggie. It has been years that Sol has been pretty much devoid of any features. Surely, I thought we would be back into a sunspot cycle by now.

Dedicated solar scopes and equipment can take awesome images, but the cost is ..... astronomical! No Thanks. I have to check if my film solar filter fits my little 60mm scope, which I believe it does, just in case sunspots start popping up.

Thanks, Ed. You are so right about the astronomical prices of solar equipment. I have a friend who has a solar imaging setup complete with HA and CaK capabilities. It's awesome... and awesomely expensive! He does outreach at several local schools, museums and parks. People love it!

I think I'll just stick with my humble little solar filter and DSLR, lol.

I picked up a PST last year, honestly I am not that impressed.
If I am patient I can usually spot a prom, but it's barely noticeable.

I end up using the ST80 with a white light filter to pick out spots ;)

Sorry to hear the PST isn't that impressive visually. I have seen a few images on line that looked pretty decent taken through PSTs.

I had an AT72ED I used for solar with a white light filter and really enjoyed it. I took some great images of the 2017 eclipse with it. Solar observation and imaging would be great in South Florida if it wasn't for the searing heat, even in shade.
