I seen that we will very soon start using lasers for the first time to communicate with a space probe and I've known that SETI has held some kind of an interest in laser communication for some time. The Breakthrough Starshot Project wants to use a powerful Earth or moon based laser to propel tiny probes to our nearest solar system and says it could get them there in 20 years with a one hour blast from a laser.

WOW, I did not know about the laser powered part.
I was watching something today about the future of the moon and it looks more likely that a space elevator will be built on the moon before the earth.

Ahh I was not aware about the space elevator for the moon they say this, and I am surprised:

It is similar in concept to the better known Earth-based space elevator idea, but since the Moon's surface gravity is much lower than the Earth's, the engineering requirements for constructing a lunar elevator system can be met using currently available materials and technology.

For the earth that's a real challenge, I read scientist would need to build the factory in space to build the ribbon and lower it down to earth.. but how can you manage a ribbon that is a couple of hundreds of kilometers long.. with the wind on earth especially.

    Perhaps in 200 years..

A space elevator on the moon would go very nice with all of the other activities that they are planning for there.
