A few years ago I acquired a Pellor red torch/flashlight. It's very bright (can cook Cornish pasties lol) and quite useful.

One day the dummy earth pin broke while the charger was in the wall socket and it couldn't be plugged in properly. British wall sockets and plugs have three pins, unlike most countries, which have two. In the UK due to high AC voltages there is an extra earth pin. Plugs also usually contain fuses to act as breakers if the plug is overloaded. Although this one just had a dummy third pin and no fuse. So I ordered another torch/charger set as it was under £20. The second one actually had a fuse and the earth pin wasn't a dummy as it now catered specifically to the British market. The second torch worked fine. Until I accidentally put the battery in the charger the wrong way round and fried it. So, relatively undaunted, I ordered another torch. This one came without a battery and the charger didn't work properly. After some correspondence between myself and a gentleman in Hong Kong via email, and my promise to remove the derogatory comments I'd written about the product on Amazon, he agreed to send me a replacement and I could even keep the torch that had been delivered minus its battery.

So now I have four torches, three batteries and one charger.

So - was it worth it? Is it a good flashlight (torch)?

It looks like my CREE. The CREE I have is super-bright LED white light that's capable of blinding people on the first 'click' -setting. 'Click again and you get a 'friendly' light. Then on the 3rd. 'click' - it goes back to blinding and flashing rapidly that would ensure your 'victim' will be blinded & disoriented. It is intended as a self-defense weapon.

It, too, comes from the P.R. China.

Yeah - they hawk (slang for 'sell') these on TV (I got mine from a catalog though) as "Tactical" flashlights for self-defense. The ad show's em' being thrown out of a helicopter and surviving the 50' fall. And of them glowing-away brightly underwater.

    Pathetic.
