    I would recommend changing the top image on the site. Looking out over an extreme light polluted city is not my idea of a fun astronomical outing. Just saying . . . .

    Hi JayinUtah,

    Welcome to AC! Thank you for signing up and for your post.

    You are absolutely correct about the header image, and we will be changing it soon to something more relevant and appropriate.

    The original image is a beautiful one, most of it actually consisting of the sky and stars, including the Milky Way arching gracefully overhead. But in our attempt to include the silhouette of the trees and people in the foreground, the stars all but got lost in the cropping.

    This image was thrown up quickly just as a placeholder to test the concept and is not meant to be our final image. There are a hundred little things that we need to fix and tweak in the coming weeks and months before this site is ready for prime-time. But we sincerely appreciate the feedback. Keep them coming so that we can work on the ones most important to our audience.

    Thanks and welcome again to AC.

    @JayinUtah,

    I just got a chance to find another image for the header. Just FYI I am limited to using images that we can get the permission to use or images that are explicitly public domain. This one happens to be part of public domain but we hope in the future to showcase our users photos in our headers in the future. Let me know what you think.
