    Hey Folks,

Anyone up for some Moon-Watching? I hope so as at the end of the Month, we've got a great event heading for many of us: A Total Lunar Eclipse! And this one snuck up on me.

Here's a detailed Pdf. article from our friends at Earth Sky News, as well as Pdf. diagram of the event:

Super Blue Moon Eclipse on January 31.pdf

Total Lunar Eclipse of Jan 31 2018.pdf

Read here - or 'save' to your machine for your convenience.

    Enjoy!

    Dave

I still have some eclipse fever left from this summer! I think it will be partial for us, Dave; the moon will set before totality. But hey, it'll still be fun to watch! Thanks for the pdfs:D

Oh yeah. I'm into these to see what the colors will be as I find each one - total or not - has a unique "flavor" to it.

    Wish I had! Thanks!

I haven't been to Seattle since '82. I studied Mycology there. It's THE mushroom capitol of the world! But the constantly damp - more like sopping-wet - climate nearly killed me. I couldn't acclimate to always being inundated by 'Freddy the Fog-Bank' to start off my day with. Great for mushrooms - bad for me. Alas!

But I LOVE fresh, wild 'shrooms, one of my favorite foods. And the sacred ones that change the wallpaper are great too. Each has a slightly different, yet very notable, 'spirit' to them. Excellent for a young Shaman like I was. I did NOT abuse them to "catch a buzz, dude..." I saw the idiot aftermath of such unguided actions. Most notable for people taking the wrong ones, eating Galerina-species, and needing a liver transplant.

"But other than needing a new liver, were they a good 'buzz,' dude?" :p

    Lol :p

I ate hand picked mushrooms from the grass one time, I ate them with a steak you know. But the taste and texture were not interesting, texture was powdery and somewhat tasteless.. but totally comestible. I did not have any unexpected reactions. No buzz.

Unless you know your mushrooms, Neb - NEVER eat ANY you aren't 100% sure of their identity. You want to eat the mushroom. Not feed the mushrooms through your rotting body buried in the ground amongst their mycelium - the underground webs & tendrils that's the true body of the species. The above-ground 'mushroom' itself is, in effect, the myceliums' sex-organs.

If you don't know your 'shrooms and would like a good book - I can suggest a few.

Please be careful! I may sound casual about them, but I'm actually very well trained. And any I'm not familiar with - I leave well alone. I saw one situation where some 'Cosmic Joe' guy who ate some very poisonous ones at a festival out in Arizona. He thought everything on 'Mother-Earth' was safe if you had 'good vibes, Dude!'

We were out about 20 miles from the nearest paved road. We had to call-up, on a radio-telephone, the local(!) emergency-number and get a helicopter dispatched for an air-evacuation of 'Cosmic Joe' to an Emergency Room of the nearest, well-equipped hospital. And I had to radio the ER-crew and tell 'em what type of mushroom the idiot ate so they'd be ready to provide antidote (if any) and provide supportive-treatment.

'Cosmic Joe' survived. One can only hope he learned his lesson. And I hope his story saves some others from making the same foolish mistake.

Beautiful skies at night. The Milky Way stretching clear across the sky like a belt of jewels to dazzle the eyes!

    Supermoon & Mushrooms? Not quite.....

But I've gone to score us another (better, I think) article from the good folks of Earth Sky! I hope you enjoy it:

    2018’s 2nd Supermoon on January 31.pdf

And interestingly, it contains a very cool song & video! I think Earth Sky can rock with us now anytime! Give this a dance - Sophie Hunter - 'Supermoon'

P.S. - Hit the YouTube link to get it to play.

    Stay Tuned...
