It looks like almost everybody in this site has an antique/vintage scope (at least the most prolific posters). Now I have seen so many gorgeous vintage scopes that I want one too! :p

I was hoping you were talking about our scopes and not how old some of us are. :D

And be careful. It's hard to stop after the first one!!! ;)

Telescope restoration and collecting can be very gratifying. When you get done with one you feel like you saved something for the future, plus you get to use maybe a rare and wonderful piece of equipment.

Well, I don't really know much about older scopes, just a few brands like Unitron, Tasco, Celestron, Meade... sorry my ignorance! Do you know which could be an "affordable first vintage scope" if such thing even exists?

I picked up an older Vixen Custom 80mm F11 achromatic refractor of ebay, 0.925'' ep's and the old gold lable. Not sure how old it is, but it is a keeper, will make a lovely planetary/lunar/solar scope.

Thats a great page thanks for sharing. I may need to reach out to this person when I get around to updating our database with additional telescopes and including the manuals. Luckily he looks to be a local and @LewC may know him personally :)

Yes I do, George. Robert Provin is the creator of the telescope catalog and manual website. (I contributed a couple of catalogs.) Robert is a retired geographer/cartographer and college professor. In the 1970s or 1980s he co-authored an excellent book on astrophotography. He owns a number of modern and vintage scopes.

Robert is a heck of a nice guy with a subtle sense of humor. Here's a picture I took of him at a Mt. Pinos star party 9 years ago. (You should be able to recognize me by my shadow at the bottom of the picture.)
