I know filters and their use are very subjective, but I’ve recently been experimenting with a few basic relatively inexpensive (TS Optics/GSO) Wratten coloured filters. The Yellow-Green Wratten #11 transmits 78% of available light and isn’t a longpass filter. From what I can gather it has also been used in some photography for colour correction.

I’ve discovered that the #11 is particularly good for making the maria on Mars more distinct. It seems to come into its own on Saturn though and appears to make the Cassini Division much more apparent. Furthermore it can make cloud detail easier to see.
