Manufacturer Description

A. About Dew-Not Dew Heaters

Proudly made in the USA by AFAB, the Dew-Not Dew Remover is a thick film dew heater manufactured for operation at 12 volts. Sixty-six percent of the surface area is heat emitting - this means more even heat distribution and no localized hot spots or burnouts often associated with resistance wire heaters.

Dew-Not dew heater strips are probably the most power-efficient product of their kind on the market today. This is important if you use batteries to power your telescope and accessories in the field. Some competing dew heater designs use a larger amount of rubber and fabric during manufacture requiring additional power to heat up these elements before any heat is transferred to your telescope. Dew-Not's efficient design is about twice as power-efficient as its nearest competitor, so your battery will last much longer.

Dew-Not strips are manufactured to very high quality standards. Each heater has a velcro strip on one side for attachment. Each heater comes with a standard six foot cord. This cord length is longer than competing designs and provides you with a lot more flexibility in placement. The standard RCA phono-plug male connector used is compatible with Kendrick, Dew-Buster, and most other commercially available dew system controllers.

Protected by over 30 USA and international patents (relating to resistance heaters, methods of their manufacture, and innovative flexible, electrical circuitry), and carrying more than 20 years of constant improvements and enhancements, the Dew-Not Dew Remover is the ultimate in reliability and efficiency.  AFAB has been involved in the design and manufacture of resistive heating elements for over 25 years. Dew-Not's prices are also about half that of another leading competing brand. With Dew-Not, you get an excellent productand save power and money.

B. Selecting a Dew-Not Dew Heater

Dew-Not is available for all popular sized eyepieces and telescopes. To select the right dew heater for your scope, measure the circumference of your telescope tube (or measure the tube diameter - not telescope aperture - and multiply by 3.14) and pick one of the models based on length from the table below. For in-between sizes, choose the next larger size of dew heater.

Special models are also available for use with telescope controllers (DN16) and binoviewers (DN17). The Binoview binoviewer model is comprised of two eyepiece-sized 6" strips in tandem coupled with a 4" long Y-wire to a single RCA plug. The Binoview is the ultimate binoviewer optic dew remover.

C. Recommended Accessories

Optional cigarette lighter adapters can be purchased from other sources that will allow you to power the dew heater from a 12 volt power source. For controlling several Dew-Not strips from a single source, or to vary the power output, you can consider the optional Dew-Not Dual Channel Controller (Model DNC02).

5.0 I purchased this strip to

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I purchased this strip to use with the PrimaLuceLab Eagle. This is a well made heater that functions beautifully and fits the bill just as well as the higher priced options (which I have purchased in the past). This is a great way to go save a few bucks without sacrificing functionality.

      Comments:

Just so pleased with how it works when paired with the DSLR buddy. Nice thing about the dew not strip is that it will also work with my Thousand Oaks 4 channel controller for when I’m using my dslr on my telescope and want to have more than one dew strip on my equipment.

      5.0 Warmer!

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

My new dew strap is great. I use it to warm the Meade reducer/corrector between my scope and camera, so the dew doesn't ruin my images. It happened to me once, when I noticed towards the end of the evening, that all my images were starting to blur. When I packed everything up to go home, that's when I saw the reducer/correcter was all dewed up. After that, I vowed to never have that happen again, so I bought a dew strap for that and another one for my Rigel Quik Finder. Great accessory to have!

      5.0 Dew heaters

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I usually have limited time out under the stars and the first night out the dew heaters worked perfectly..... the fog had already started moving in and I was able to get easily 30 more minutes of capture time before it was too bad with the clouds.

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

The DN03 works well with both 1.25" and 2" ES82 eyepices (even the fat ES82 30mm). I tried several kinds of straps before finding one with the right combination of width and length.

      5.0 Dew-Not...Does Work

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

When I got my Dew-Not, I hooked it up to my 8" SCT with a cheap PMW dimmer switch. Humidity was 90%, and I set the dimmer to 1/2 power. After a 2 hour session, dew was dripping off the tripod and back half of the OTA. The collector plate and views were crystal clear. There was also plenty of power left in my 7A battery.

      Pros:

      Easy to Use,Lightweight,Strong Construction

      Cons:

      Comments:

The Dew-Not lens heater is awesome! I went on a three-day camping trip in Mount Laguna to shoot the Perseid meteor shower. On the night of the peak the humidity got up to 84% and my lens started fogging up. Luckily I remembered that I had the Dew-Not in my camera bag. I strapped the Dew-Not to my lens and plugged it into a battery pack. It worked great - no fog on my lens the entire night. I got some great shots of Perseids as a result.

5.0 Great Qualitly And It Works.

      Pros:

      Quality,Efficient

      Cons:

      Comments:

I purchased one heater for my 5 inch refractor and the other for it's 3 inch guide scope. True to its name no dew. I couldn't feel any heat on the larger scope and there was no dew. To me it suggests efficiency.

5.0 Effective solution to night photography

      Pros:

      Easy to Use,Lightweight,Compact

      Cons:

Requires Massive Power So,Massive Power Source

      Comments:

I am using it to photo-shoot star trails as well as other stars photography. Due to high humidity in my area and very cold nights in the desert lens were getting covered with dew. To actually use it though I had to buy the controller (fine) and a high power battery (heavy).

      5.0 Great product!

      Pros:

      Compact,Strong Construction,Low Power,Easy to Use

      Cons:

      Comments:

I bought these after struggling with dew on my EP and finderscope. Using them with a DIY 3 channel controller they work great! Usually I just crank them up to full power and they are only slightly warm - more than enough to keep the lenses from fogging. Very impressed with design and workmanship - I do not expect to ever have to replace these unless they are stolen! highly recommended!

      Lightweight,Easy to Use

      Cons:

      Comments:

This has solved my dew problems, I should have picked it up when I first got my scope as it would have saved a few nights that got cut short.

It appears to be a quality made piece, but also important is that it doesn't use a lot of power and works as designed and advertised. I have run my Go-to scope for hours with this Dew-not on, and never drained my Power Tank battery.

      Pros:

      Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Lightweight

      Cons:

      Comments:

Purchased to provide extra dew protection for a Meade RCX400 14inch. I was impressed by the quality and finish of the dew strap. Unfortunately it proved to be too short for the Meade. I did swap it over to my C14, which had a longer dew strap from another manufacturer, and this one was just about right for the C14. Overall I am pleased with my purchase and would certainly recomment the product.

5.0 Simple way to save your night TL shots

      Pros:

      Strong Construction,Compact,Easy to Use,Lightweight

      Cons:

      Comments:

I lead many "learning photosafaris" with a focus on astro timelapses...the Dew-not has saved shots for me and my students from Mt Rainier to Mauna Kea.

It's simple, small and effective. All very important when traveling to remote locations where gear size and reliability are a must.

Agena Astros great customer service, quick shipping and reasonable pricing have helped ensure that many of my last minute students were able to keep their equipment functioning in less than optimum conditions and get the shots they came for.

4.0 Dew-Not Dew Remover band for 14inch Mead

      Pros:

      Easy to Use,Strong Construction

      Cons:

      Doesn't fit RCX400

      Comments:

I wanted to use it with my 14inch RCX400 as the internal heater just doesn't do a decent job. Unfortunately the 14inch band is too short for the RCX400, but does fit the C14 I also have so I ended up using it on that. Does a good job on the C14 and appears to be better that the competitors band that I used to use on the C14 but now have transferred to the RCX400 14. The competitors band is longer, however, so this is the only issue I have with the heater band. A shame, because it is the best quality I have seen.

With this heater running at 30-50% power (setting on the controller) I have no dew problems whatsoever. It is very well made and does the job very well. The heater is sort of color coded. the heat side being red and the outer side being black. Easy to install with an eleastic velcro strip. Although this isn't stated in any instructions it should be installed on the main tube just behind the corrector for best performance.

5.0 Does the job at half the price!

      Pros:

      Accurate

      Cons:

      Comments:

I have a 12" SCT and was suffering from dew despite using one of those foam dew shields with the velcro strip closures (which I *don't* recommend, by the way). This dew heater simply does the job. I run it [fused at 2a] directly from a 12v battery without a controller. It works great, doesn't get too hot, and doesn't drain the battery unduly. The connecting strap has elastic in it so it's always snug and the heater has never fallen off. I just leave it on the scope all the time. I'm sure it would work even better with a PWM controller but the fact is that you can't go wrong buying this dew heater.

5.0 Essential accesory for your scope

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I bought a dew no-dew heater from Agena a couple of months ago and this accesory works as described in my refractors. I have other more expensive dew heaters and dew-removers, and there is no difference in performance and quality construction, at a fraction of the price. Moreover it is compatible with other dew-remover systems. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend it as an essential accesory for observation.

      5.0 AFAB Dew-Not Dew Remover

      Pros:

Use very little power,Quality is great,Work very well

      Cons:

      None

      Comments:

This review is for 3 different Dew Not heater strips only - one 1.25" strip, one 2" strip & one 6" strip. I bought all three from Agena AstroProducts and have been very happy with the quality and performance of each strip.

In my area the dew forms around 2am - 3am. I have been using all three strips for the past week and once the dew starts drifting in, I turn on my strips and they work just like they should. No dew forming - one Dew-Not strip is wrapped around my 6" mirror, one 2" strip on my 50m finder and the 1.25" on my 32mm eyepiece. I only have one 12-volt controller at this time but soon I will have two, so I cover my finder with its cap until I need it.

I use a Home Depot husky power tank to run all my 12 volt astro equipment and the power tank has a 12 gauge built in, so I can tell just how much power these strips are using. I notice when only using the 6" and the 1.25" strips that they don't use much power from what the 12v display says. The power gauge starts at 13.4 volts and by 4am it reads 12.2v....that's 1.2 volts for two hours of usage!

Once I get another 12v dew strip controller, I will be able to use all four strips and not worry about my battery running down. Next I will need a Telrad dew strip and a 8" dew strip for my C8 SCT and am thinking about the 0.965" for my secondary. That will be a total of 6 strips and 2 controllers I will own. If I didn't think they were built with quality, I sure wouldn't buy more!! :-)
