The Meade LX70 8" Newtonian Reflector is equipped with a high-quality f/5 parabolic primary mirror. This fast f/5 optical system provides spectacular wide-field images for the discriminating deep-sky observer and astro-photographer. Its 8" aperture allows it to resolve details down to 0.57 arc-seconds across and can be viewed using the two included 1.25" Plossl eyepieces (9mm & 26mm). With its 2" rack and pinion focuser, it is equipped to handle wide-field 2" eyepieces out of the box. The 8x50 optical viewfinder with cross-hair reticle makes locating faint object quickly and easily.

All LX70 optical tube assemblies come complete with an aluminum Vixen-style dovetail and dust covers, and they will provide their owner a lifetime of observing satisfaction. Optical tube weight is 20 pounds. LX70 mount sold separately.

      3.0 Reasonable quality/price

      Pros:

      Lightweight,Easy to Use

      Needs some care in alignment.
      The screws at the bottom are easy to use (with a suitable laser alignment tool), unfortunately they stick out quite a bit so it is impossible to put the instrument on its base.
      I find the overall quality of the mirrors good, although the image is not spectacularly crispy.
      The structure is well built, robust at the price of a non negligible weigth (still in line with similar instruments).
      The focuser looks a bit cheap but it works well even with setup of a certain importance.

      4.0 Purchased tube only.

      Accurate,Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Lightweight,Quality Lenses

      Meade has had some bad reviews in the past but this scope is a winner! You can't beat the price and I think the optics are very good. The construction is also very good. Solid spider and the finder is large and of goo quality. I understand that this scope is made in the same factory as the Orion scopes but this is much better looking.
