Meade 5000 Series 5.5mm UWA Eyepiece
Pros: Cons: Comments:I recently purchased the Meade 5.5 mm UWA from Agena Astro. It arrived in a very timely manner in excellent condition together with a free large eyepiece case.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I have used the eyepiece a couple of times in my SW 120ED Pro Refractor. The eyepiece provides sharp, crisp images practically across the entire FOV. In my f/7.5 Refractor it provides approx. 164x. The eyerelief is comfortable to my eyes. I don’t wear my glasses when viewing. It is a solidly built eyepiece. The twistup eyecup is VERY tight! You really have to twist hard and firm to get it to move. Hopefully it will loosen up with use. I like the eyepiece very much. Looking forward to trying it out in my Z12 dob soon. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Mar 1, 2017Meade 5.5mm UWA Review
Pros: Cons: Comments:Item arrived quickly. Build quality is very high. It has good eye relief and is "user friendly" with now blackouts. Only had one good weather moment I could be out. Observed M42 and it clouded-over, so my "real" test will have to wait. Stars were lovely across the wide field.Observed with a Skywatcher 120mm ED Refractor giving me about 165x. Rated 5 stars so far.

Jun 2, 2016Meade got it right - this one is a gem
Pros:Quality Lenses,Comfortable,Easy to Use,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:I bought the 5.5mm Meade UWA from Agena 2 1/2 years ago and I can say without reservation that this eyepiece is not only the most comfortable 82 deg AFOV eyepiece I have used, it is one of the most comfortable eyepieces I have used of any AFOV class or brand. When Meade dropped the 4.7mm and 6.7mm focal lengths in this series and added the 5.5mm FL they made improvements to the design. The 5.5mm FL has a larger eye lense than the 8.8mm FL and it makes a big difference in comfort. The eye relief is perfect and the sweet spot for eye relief also allows the observer to see the field stop without blackouts. That is not the case with the 8.8mm FL in this series.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The optical performance of this eyepiece is outstanding. I use it for Lunar, planetary, and deep sky with my 120mm ED APO and it is excellent for all purposes. There are no ghost images when observing the planets and it is very sharp. Cloud belts on Jupiter are rich and detailed. It provides clear and sharp lunar views.
For deep sky I find the 5.5mm Meade provides outstanding, contrasty views of globular clusters.
Do not let the relatively low cost give you doubts. This eyepiece meshes seamlessly with more expensive brands. I use it in conjunction with TV and Pentax eyepieces and never think to myself that I should replace it with a similar FL from those brands. This eyepiece is one I will never sell. If I trimmed my eyepiece set to 3 eyepieces this would be one of the three I would keep. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Pros:Lightweight,Compact,Accurate,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:Sold my third one and bought it back. What can I say? This eyepiece is in a league of its own!

Mar 12, 2016Excellent Planetary EP
Pros:Easy to Use,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:I had a Plossl for planetary before this but the field of view required a nudge for my manual dob very frequently it took away from the experience. Not with this one. I frame Saturn or Jupiter in the field of view and enjoy looking at them for a good while before I need to nudge the dob again. Very contrasty and sharp and overall one of the best bang for the buck for wide field EPs.

Feb 25, 2016Excellent performance, unbeatable value
Pros:Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:A very good eyepiece with superb optical qualities and decent eye relief.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Very good transmission makes this very good for DSO
Excelent contrast and lack of any ghosting makes this also good for planetary and lunar observations
Also in my F5.7 refractor I get excelent edge to edge correction and pinpoint stars
And all those at an unbeatable price
Get it while you can. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Now I'm on my third!!!!
I said I'd never let this out of my eyepiece case the last time, but this time it STAYS!! Great ER, lightweight, and sharp to the edges in a fast relflector without coma correction. Better than a Nagler! This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Aug 15, 2014Good value
Pros:Good value,Performs Well
Cons:Baader M Sg Filter,Needs Baader Msg Filter
Comments:I have been pleasantly surprised by the Meade 5000 5.5mm eyepiece. The only downside is that it works MUCH better in conjunction with the Baader Moon & SkyGlow filter. When used with this filter, it gives Nagler-like performance. Might not be at the Pentax XW, Ethos or Delos level, but with the Baader filter, I find it emulates a "virtual" T6 "5.5mm", if such a beast existed. Very good value for the money. Won't find a brand new, or even a used T6, in this price range for the Meade brand new.

Apr 16, 2013Excellent eyepiece!!!
Pros:Accurate,Strong Construction,Compact,Lightweight,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:After getting this eyepiece, I tried it on Jupiter in my scope. This eyepiece gives me just over 200x magnification and the views of Jupiter were almost as good as in my 7mm Pentax XW!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I also use this for globulars, double stars, and small galaxies with really good results. The eye relief is perfect. I don't have to jam my eye into the lens to see the whole FOV which I did have to do with the non-waterproof versions of these.
Highly recommended. I give this a 10 out of 10. This eyepiece is never leaving my eyepiece case! This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
