VOTED A "HOT SKY PRODUCT - 2017" BY SKY&TELESCOPE MAGAZINE!

Dec 13, 2015 Update: "...this could be the coming of that video astronomy revolution I’d been predicting for a long time" - Veteran amateur astronomer and noted astronomy author, Rod Mollise (aka Uncle Rod), has just published this excellent review of the Revolution Imager on his blog

How is this different than R1? This second generation Revolution Imager R2 System has an easier menu to operate, better contrast control, better gain control, and finer image processing on board. The R2 version does a maximum of 5.12 second exposure and now stacks up to 6 images instead of 5 in the first generation Revolution Imager. Imaging results are about equal to the old sensor/camera in every scenario, but with easier menu controls and greater on board image processing.

1. Plug it in and "see" through your telescope

With the Revolution imager, all you have to do is make some simple connections and you can use the power of the most modern technology to see on the included color monitor the mountains, valleys and seas of the Moon. Easily change the exposure of the video camera and seamlessly go to seeing the reds and greens of Nebulosity or even the spiral arms of the Whirlpool Galaxy. All from your backyard using the amazing sensitivity of the most modern Sony imaging chips and built-in live automated video processing. You will be blown away at what even the most modest tracking telescopes will show you in just a few seconds of exposure!

The Revolution Imager also allows you to see for yourself some of the most awesome astronomical objects that appear in the news without the hubble telescope, but with your telescope in your backyard.

Great Orion Nebula Image

2. See what you've been missing

Have you ever squinted through a telescope in vain, peering at something and maybe you think you saw something? If you have a telescope that can track the stars for just a few seconds, you can evolve. Take a look at this image of the Great Orion Nebula. The image on the right was taken with a 6" telescope in a suburban neighborhood; the image on the right is a sketch made from an 8" telescope in the same neighborhood.

Accessories Included

3. Everything included (including the universe)

The Revolution Imager includes everything you need to get up-and-running and get the most out of your existing telescope. Included are:

  • Portable 7" LCD monitor.
  • 12v Li-Ion Battery with charger to run both the camera and LCD screen.
  • 0.5x Focal Reducer to dramatically widen the field of view.
  • UV/IR filter.
  • Hand-held remote control to control the camera.
  • Shock-proof carry case.
  • All required cables.
Revolution Imager Monitor

4. No computer required

The Revolution Imager includes a portable, battery powered 7" monitor. This allows you get up and running straight away no matter where you are without the added hassle of using a computer! no drivers, no unexpected updates, and no crashes. The monitor makes the Revolution Imager a great outreach device, too, making it easy to share wonder of faint deep sky objects with everyone. The inset photo on the right shows the M27 Dumbbell Nebula through a 4" refractor from Los Angeles Skies including a 75% Moon.

5. Beat light pollution

The high sensitivity of the Sony CCD sensor in the Revolution Imager, along with its Digital Signal Processor, allows you to see objects from your own light polluted backyards even with your smallest telescopes.

6. See even deeper

The Revolution Imager allows you to detect faint galaxies using a moderately sized telescope in your won backyard. When combined with a computer and additional software, you can go even deeper, even detecting faint star forming regions in the M33 galaxy oe even fainter galaxy groups. Using the Revolution Imager allows you to get the views of a larger telescope with your exsting telescope.

7. Share the Universe

The excellent sensitivity, combined with the large LCD monitor allows you to share views of the universe with your family or the public during outreach events. You can now simultaneously share views of deep sky objects at large gatherings.

5.0 Revolution Imager R2 Live View CCD Video Astronomy Camera System

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

This a very easy system to use. The hand remote control works great. In my first night of viewing, I was able to view the Horsehead Nebula and Crab Nebula (very clearly) without any filters through my 12" Meade LX90.

5.0 Revolution 2 camera: Fantastic performance and value

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I’ve used many different cameras over the years for astrophotography. I was hoping the Revolution 2 would Improve my ability to obtain quality images from light polluted locations as advertised. Well, this small, lightweight camera far exceeds what I had imagined it could do. I am stunned by what I’ve been able to accomplish in just my first two sessions to date. Whether viewing live color images on the supplied LCD screen or acquiring live stacked images on my laptop via the recommended SharpCap program, I’ve obtained images and live views of nebula that are far beyond anything I’ve ever experienced before. I read earlier reviews that mentioned the challenge of dealing with the cords and battery, and easily used pieces of Velcro to mount the battery and camera controller to my mount for a neat looking arrangement. Thanks for selling this incredible camera. Agena is my first choice to buy anything Astro due to the excellent quality, service and prices. Thanks. Ron M.

      4.0 Excellent but ....

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

This is a wonderful system for astrophotography. The reason I did not give it five stars is due to the instructions, or lack thereof. They are abysmal. That said, I’ve only been able to use the system once or twice since purchase, but the times I’ve used it, it functioned perfectly. There is a learning curve as with any bit of technology.

      5.0 Great Device

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I use this as an image enhancement device for casual astronomical observations. I have found that with it my 80mm refractor mounted on a goto equatorial mount, I can see more than I can with my 8" Dobsonian.

5.0 of Revolution Imager R2 1.25" Live View CCD Video Astronomy Camer

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

Excellent product. I am a beginner in video Astronomy and this product is wonderful for anybody starting with this aspect of the hobby. Works perfect with my Celestron 8SE telescope and the Computer program Sharpcap 2.9. It is a complete system, you don't need to use a computer unless you want to capture pictures. I have been able to see deep space object from my heavily light polluted backyard that I was not able to see before visually at the eyepiece! I can actually see this objects in color! and show them to my wife and son without them having to squint at the eyepiece or wait for their eyes to get dark adapted to be able to see them. Very satisfied. Definitely would recommend this product. Thanks

      4.0 Revolution Imager R2

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

Easy to setup and use on the first night. Got a very nice view of the Great Orion Nebula and Jupiter. Only complaints are the small 7 inch monitor (plan to connect it to a larger, higher quality monitor) and the connecting cables that come with the kit are much too short ( battery pack and monitor literally dangle in the air from my scope unless I hold them up or am able to place them on an observing ladder).
