Manufacturer Description
Housed in a 2" barrel like the 35mm, the Tele Vue 27mm Panoptic eyepiece is lighter & smaller. It's perfect for any telescope size, type or speed, where a little more magnification is desired, yet still allows full field viewing with eyeglasses. For example, with the Tele Vue-85, it gives 22x and a true field of 2.9 degrees!
The Tack-Sharp, Long Eye-Relief 68 degree Field Eyepiece
With the Panoptic series, Tele Vue has taken the Wide-Field concept to Nagler-like performance levels - A meaningful advance over any eyepiece in its 68° field class.
All Tele Vue Panoptic eyepieces have proprietary tuned full multi-coatings, blackened lens edges, high index glasses, fold-down eyeguards, rubber grip rings, cover for the eyeguard, an undercut in the barrel for extra locking security, and filter threads. All Tele Vue eyepiece lines are proprietary, in-house designs manufactured to their specifications and tolerances. Every eyepiece is individually tested at Tele Vue to ensure it meets high optical and cosmetic standards.
Concept: Using my Wide-Field design as a starting point, I looked to bring Nagler-like performance to the 60+° field class with the Panoptic series. The idea of a lens to "interface" between the eyepiece and Barlow struck me as the proper way to keep size, weight and cost to a minimum while improving edge of field performance even further. I later developed this idea into the Powermates. — Al Nagler

TeleVue 2" 27mm Panoptic Telescope Eyepiece
Pros: Cons: Comments:This replaced a T/V 24mm 1.25" Panoptic which "was" one of my favorite telescope eyepieces to begin with. I find the 27 2" even better...very easy on the eye. 19mm's of eye relief make eye placement more comfortable. Typical T/V workmanship and materials. Pin-point stars to the edge. And not too heavy at 16 ounces. A "keeper"!!! And the usual AGENA super FAST & FRIENDLY service --- they are MY "go-to" seller of astro gear. #1.

Feb 4, 2016Sharp to the edge
Pros:Accurate,Compact,Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:Brilliant eye piece. I needed a semi wide eye piece for my telescope and this 27mm panoptic fit the bill. The view is excellent will no aberrations and it is sharp to the edge of the field. The FOV is more than sufficient as I don't find myself changing my eye placement to enjoy the entire field.

Nov 13, 2015Scope changer
Pros:Easy to Use,Clarity,Accurate,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:I was fortunate to have a good friend who loaned me his sets of ES, Televue, and Vixen eyepieces. Out of all the 20+ eyepieces, this one was the clear standout. At the time I had a Skywatcher ED80, and it was like I had a different scope. I bought one immediately. The wide, bright views, the clarity, and the improved contrast are just wonderful. I've since acquired a Celestron 9.25, and it's brilliant in that scope as well.

Nov 10, 2007TeleVue Panoptic 27mm
Pros:Sharp views edge to edge; clear & contrasty
Cons:None
Comments:This is a superior eyepiece with a high price. But what an eyepiece! In the Panoptic line of EPs, only this one and the 35mm Pan have the 2" barrels. The higher powers have the 1.25" and the 2" skirt which many like; however I don't. This is an excellent 2" medium low power EP for just about any telescope. What this eyepiece brings you is a wide field of view with ample aperture for DSOs.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Star clusters are a good test for this eyepiece's performance and he 27mm pan is very sharp to the edge in my 8" f/10 SCT. There is no optical distortion at all. The views are very contrasty. There is, in my opinion, no kidney beaning effect at all. This EP provides bright images and a good amount of contrast. This low power eyepiece is made for nebulae and galaxies offering excellent wide fields of view.
With the Televue sale currently on, one can buy this for about $330 new. Eye relief is a good 16mm and the weight is only about 1 pound which is not bad at all.Sort bySpecifications
