Manufacturer Description
Achromatic Refractor Telescope
My very first telescope was a 70mm (2.8”). With this size aperture you will, as I did, be on your way to discovering the craters and mountains on our moon, the rings around Saturn and the storms on Jupiter. With a star chart you will find beautiful double stars of varying colors, and on moonless nights, you will see the Andromeda Galaxy, the Orion Nebula and hundreds of other Deep Sky objects. Use for terrestrial viewing to spot those far off ships or nesting birds. The A70Lf, although inexpensive, is not a toy telescope. It has the same quality glass and exacting workmanship that goes into our much larger instruments. I hope you’ll find it as enjoyable as I did as you begin this great adventure we call amateur astronomy. Clear Skies MrStarGuy
The A70Lf is an Achromatic Refractor with 70mm (2.8”) of aperture. Its focal length is 900mm (3 ft.) with an f ratio of 12.9. A good quality small refractor
Pros:Quality Lenses,Accurate,Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:For the price this is a good step up from the 60mm scopes. It has very good, coated and clear optics. At 900mm focal length you are going to get crisp, color free images. It is much better built than the 'department store' type of telescope, you'll know it right away. And as a package deal with the Mini Porta mount - it is quite a nice complete telescope. And you get a better deal on the Porta!

Jan 30, 2013Vixen A70Lf as a Guide Scope
Pros:Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:I recently purchased the Vixen A70Lf refractor from Agena Astro Products and have been using it as a guide scope for astrophotography. Overall, its performance exceeded my expectations except for one problem; the focuser has a fair amount of flexure that is an issue when imaging at longer focal lengths, 1000 mm and up. But for shorter focal length imaging using a Lodestar or similar light weight auto guider it has not really been a problem.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
At this price point with rings, decent optics and a dovetail it's a pretty good deal. But they don't make a focuser upgrade for the Vixen A70Lf. So, I came up with my own "do-it-yourself" rock solid focuser upgrade.
There's a video on how to do it on my YouTube channel, Dakota Starry Nights, for anyone who may be interested in using the A70Lf as a guide scope. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
