I will probably get either old stock, a rebrand GSO or the nearest thing to it lol.

I hope it's 'old stock' of the GSO 2" as shown in the Orion website Q70's.

These are very nice eyepieces. Americans should be listening - so Heads' Up!' The Orion-branded Q70's are likely to vanish! Stock-up if you thinking about. Or don't. Up to you all!

Found those EP's on Agena. 68° FOV. Looks quite nice and their price is $70.00ea.

Be still - my palpitating wallet!

    ps -

It might be 65° FOV on those GSO's. Whichever - my poor, 'sobbing' wallet. It didn't get it's way and cough-up a wad of $$$CASH.

    ...YET...

365 now reckon that their site is a bit knackered and the eyepiece doesn't actually exist. But they think they can still get one for me from the supplier before the next Mars opposition.

It's not all golf and badminton at 365 then, eh?

    They have them all. Here's a 42mm.

    https://agenaastro.com/gso-42mm-superview-eyepiece.html

I think Orion and it's Q70's are one of very few with the older GSO 2" 26mm, 32mm, 38mm.

ps - I found your reference to 'Badmitten, etc' I've solved the problem! I blocked youtube in here altogether! Phooey! I can pull it in by coming back in and NOT logging in.

I didn't think Orion sourced from GSO. More likely Barsta or Long Perng.

Better get the Gene Genie on it then ...

Typical Orion. They are known for shooting themselves in foot from time-to-time....

I got mine about 2-1/2 years ago from UO. The Barsta do look a bit different. But I'd have to get down & dirty to be certain.

Anywhosit - i'd call it a moot point. I'd like to hear a review of the newer one's.

That much I noted from a quick glance of the image. I was playing Devil's Advocate. Maybe they were getting a real 'cheap' deal on someones' old-stock on the smooth models from the "Lustful Penguin Ice-Tube Corp, Ltd" in 'Shakletons' Bluff, Antarctica?'

Who the Dickens' knows? I know it it wasn't Yours' Truly. I think.....And that proves it was YOU!

    Bwa-Ha! Ha! Ha!

Orion eyepieces made by Barsta usually have no undercuts.

Well ... dipstick of the month award is most definitely mine ...

    dipstick.png

I have been doing some daylight trials with the GSO ED 2x Barlow on the ED72 and can't get it to focus. I've also discovered that I can use the 2" diagonal with very short 1.25" EP's (5, 4, 3.2mm) and still achieve focus. Apparently, in previous attempts I hadn't pushed the diagonal right into the focuser. In my defence; it was dark and a bit fiddly when you're physically disabled lol.

After further daylight trials this doesn't appear as straightforward as I first thought. A 7mm SW UWA in a GSO 2.5x Barlow will give 150x exactly. The Barlow effectively making the 7mm a 2.8mm eyepiece. I still don't have enough in-focus with the 2" diagonal, although it will almost focus with a 2.25x Baader Q-Turret Barlow (3.1mm). Oddly the 2x Meade Telenegative doesn't work at all.

This is going to be one of those trial and error things, I can just tell lol.
