Loved the one of the aurora Australis from Tasmania. They seem to get a lot of aural activities down there,I think Hobart's about 44 degrees south so good for the not so extreme latitude. Up here you tend to be looking at an equivalent much more extreme for good shows like Iceland, Alaska, Lapland, etc..Hobart would be about the same as Montreal or Marseille if it was in the northern hemisphere so hardly ideal aural watching country.

It certainly would seem the auroral activity in the Southern Hemisphere aces that of the North. I'm at 44.28N and it's very rare we get a good show. And then it's usually just pulsing waves of white-light. The only major exception was during a Solar-Maximum a decade or so back. That one really litit off for me and as far South as Miami and more. All the colors of the rainbow were more than present - it was absolutely incredible. Most everyone went outside and just stood there. Mesmerized.

Result: I always keep my eyes scanning the Northern direction during Solar-Max! And I use this no matter what the Sun's been up to:

Good stuff! Thanks for the reminder, Kevan!

Might be something to do with the lack of land between Australia and Antarctica? I've seen the aurora Borealis a few times best showing was in Reykjavik swear that they made a noise too!never seen the aurora Australis.

I could swear I heard noise too - during that unworldly auroral-display during the Solar-Max. Sort of a HUMming. Might have been a trick of sensory overload? Who knows.

I've seen many, many pictures from Iceland and Northern Norway and such or the aurora's seen there. What we had easily matched those! Haven't seen one since.
