I'm glad you've got CDC back. I can live without Stellarium but not CDC.

A lot of UK bands post punk were quite culturally British and used idiomatic terms possibly unfamiliar to a US audience.

It helps if you know what 'Sup up your beer and collect your fakes there's a row going on down in Slough' actually means in Eton Rifles for instance. Fakes or fags are slang for cigarettes. Eton College is in Slough. It's where the elite are educated. Weller is often openly left wing. The song Going Underground was a protest song against Thatcherism.

Spare me - I already speak English english - including slang dialects. Picked it up from an expat who moved to Estonia to escape the taxes after he made a mistake and became a billionaire! LOL! How I ran into him shall remain a mystery for our shared protection! :D

But my favorite is the lingo from Wales! Welsh really makes the tongue leap-out and run for it's life!

Back to watching my country split-apart again. This is making the Vietnam War look like a Bible-School Picnic.....

Well, technically, dialects and slang can be different things. I understand Black Country and Scouse dialects but not Geordie slang. Not so sure about Estuary and Cockney though as I'm north of the Watford Gap. Luckily Smiley Culture explains all this in his educational video.

Despite being educated to degree level in Wales, and residing there for years, I still can't speak the lingo properly no matter how much I watched Pobol Y Cym. And I'm Celt descended with red hair!

Another band that sold millions of records here but not in the US was Slade. I met Noddy Holder once, he has a distinctive Wolverhampton (Black Country) accent. There have been many explanations on why they failed to impress the US market. I know why, Americans have more taste. Apart from being crap Slade couldn't even spell. lol
