The Space Walker 3D Astronomy Binoculars are another innovation in visual observing from 3D Astronomy. With the same 3D technology used in the L-O-A 21 mm eyepieces for telescope binoviewers, the Space Walker binoculars give astonishing "3D" views of stars, star clouds, and larger nebulae and star clusters in dark sky. Patent-Pending Lederman Optical Array Creates Dramatic 3D Effect

At first glance, the Space Walkers look like a standard pair of high-quality roof-prism binoculars. They incorporate a pair of fixed eyepieces with an apparent field of view of 60 degrees. One is a standard high-quality binocular eyepiece. The other has mounted on its field lens a tiny array of three glass mirrors. This is the "Lederman Optical Array" or L-O-A (patent pending), invented by 3D Astronomy founder Russ Lederman. The two eyepieces create an apparent parallax between the images, giving the perception of four layers of depth within the field of view, somewhat like the effect seen with 3D movie glasses. This renders a dramatic 3D appearance of astronomical objects with high contrast and sharp detail.

With these binoculars, dark lanes and bright knots along the Milky Way appear more striking. Star fields and large deep-sky objects like the Orion Nebula, Double Cluster, and Small Sagittarius Star Cloud appear to have depth and texture. Even passing satellites, meteors, and aircraft are set off in 3D and appear as if they're traveling in front of the stars.

While the 3D perspective is simulated and bears no relation to the actual physical distances between objects in the field of view, the visual effect with the Space Walker binoculars is real, dramatic, and truly remarkable.

High-Quality Optics

The 3D Astronomy Space Walker binoculars incorporate high-quality mechanics and optics to make the experience of exploring the night sky in 3D more enjoyable. Aside from the groundbreaking L-O-A technology, these 8x42 roof-prism binoculars include:

  • Phase corrected FMC coatings to prevent interference of light within each light path and provide high-contrast and high-brightness images
  • Dielectric coatings on prism surfaces, objective lenses, and eyepieces to maximize brightness
  • A true field of 7.5° for expansive views of the Milky Way, large star clusters, nebulae, and attractive star fields in the night sky
  • Rugged waterproof design and rubber armor to prevent damage during use and transport
  • Diopter adjustment to compensate for the difference in focus between your eyes, and twist-up eyecups to position your eyes at the most comfortable viewing position
  • Batwing eyeguards to block your peripheral vision and prevent stray light from entering your eye and ruining dark adaptation
  • A carrying case, strap, and flip-up covers for the objective lenses.

Breathtaking 3D View of the Deep Sky

Because a bright sky itself can come under the influence of the 3D effect, you get the best performance with the Space Walker binoculars when observing under a dark sky in which you can see stars of magnitude 5 or fainter with your unaided eyes. The 3D effect does not work with the Moon, planets, the Sun, or with terrestrial targets. The binoculars work best with large deep-sky objects like the North America Nebula, Andromeda Galaxy, Double Cluster, and Beehive. Views of the star clouds and dark nebulae along the backbone of the Milky Way are truly breathtaking. Even wide double stars are stunning.       Tried them for the first time last night and was more than impressed. 3D works great but the thing that was surprising was the light gathering ability. Can see I will have hours of fun using these binoculars
