Not the best choice
Pros:Nice clear charts.
Cons:Doesn't lie flat, too large for convenient field use
Comments:This was the first atlas I bought, but have barely used it. The pages don't lie flat, and it's too big to hold in one hand. And I prefer the standard constellation patterns to be shown, although this is obviously a personal preference. A nice atlas to look at from the comfort of your armchair, but a much better buy is S&Ts Pocket Sky atlas.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? NoJun 30, 2007Great atlas
Pros:Well designed, cheap, big maps
Cons:None
Comments:I have used this atlas many times in the field and it is very well designed and very accurate. It has big maps that make it easy to find your way around the night sky, and also gives a description of some of the objects visible, their magnitude, name and other info, and groups them according to galaxy, star, nebula, etc. Because it is relatively thin, it is very easy to use and shows a lot more detail than a planisphere is capable of. A good atlas will help you find those faint targets very quickly....although digital setting circles will work even better!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Great book, well designed, and very easy to use and read at night in the field.Sort by
