'Tis a Fine, Fine Accessory Me Hearty!
Pros:Comfortable, prevents facial fatigue, inexpensive.
Cons:May look silly but considering the advantages, who cares?
Comments:Avast, Matey! When I was a wee scupper, long before I even bought my first telescope, I was told that the best way to look through the eyepiece of a telescope or microscope was with BOTH eyes open and that practiced observers learned to see with only one eye at the eyepiece. For years after getting my first scope, however, I could never get the knack of this and resorted to the typical practice of scrunching one eye closed Popeye-style while viewing through the other eye. One day, while looking for contact lens solution for my wife, I spotted the Flents Protective Eye Patch at a local pharmacy for the whopping price of $3.75 and decided to give it a try.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
My first thought on using the eye patch for the first time was, "Scurvy Dog, why didn't I get one of these long ago?" I was amazed at how much longer I was able to keep my eye glued to the eyepiece without my face getting tired. I really didn't expect it to make as much of a difference as it did.
The eye patch is symmetrical to make it usable over either eye. The perimeter of the patch is padded for comfort. And, Me Hearty, it makes a great Halloween costume accessory!
Arrgh!Aug 27, 2007Flents Eye Patch
Pros:Cheap, works, makes viewing after some time nice. No squinting.
Cons:May not be carried by some drug stores.
Comments:One of my useful accessories in viewing the night sky is the Flents Eye Patch. I learned on my first star party that when you are constantly viewing with on eye, your other eye either gets tired. Squinting for very long hurts and makes your viewing difficult.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
By using this eye patch on your "non-viewing" eye, you can leave your eye open and not squint while viewing and your eye does not get tired. Believe me, it works! I now carry one in my eyepiece case all the time. Try it - you'll really like it. The cost in most drug stores is around $4 and it's a great investment. Many of my friends at the star party use it after a while. It is the little things that make viewing so much better. The Flents Eye Patch is shaped for comfort and protection and the concave shape minimizes pressure. It is made of soft, smooth material and an elastic headband holds the patch securely.Sort by
