Antares Elite Plossl 7.5mm
Pros:Well made eyepiece. Excellent coatings and lens polish.
Cons:Short eye relief. Rubber eye cup is a separate piece.
Comments:I spent some time looking at the moon with this eyepiece while using a Celestron Super C-8. I was surprised at the sharpness and the contrast. I tend to use lower powers when using this telescope, but after seeing what this eyepiece can do, now I may change the way I observe.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
My example of this eyepiece has the single coatings. According to some, the single coatings may give sharper images due to less scattering of light. I would recommend this eyepiece for critical viewing, even though some may not like the short eye relief.Dec 28, 2006The 7.5mm Antares Elite plossl
Pros:crystal sharp to the edge
Cons:small eye lens and tight eye relief
Comments:The Antares Elite plossls are put in the same quality category as Televue plossls and Ultrascopic by many. In comparing this to an 8mm Televue, I gave a slight edge to the Televue on Jupiter but couldn't tell any difference on galaxies or nebula. The views even at F/5 are crisp to the edge with the only problems being a small eye lens and tight eye relief even without glasses. Also, for many of us, there are only a few nights when the viewing allows us to use over 250X and my 1250mm fl dob with a 7.5 mm eyepiece produces 167x so it often doesn't do well barlowed. But, on a few nights I was able to catch Mars near opposition with this barlowed 2x and once at 3x with results so interesting I had to sketch. I saw a tiny ice cap on the south pole and a large one on the north as well as a great deal of contrast and patterns in the mares but no canals.
