Astro-Tech 2" Mirror Diagonal for Refractors
Pros:Construction is top notch; Bak 7 optical glass; Threaded for filters; Brass compression rings; Two year warranty.
Cons:None
Comments:When William Optics introduced its 2" mirror diagonal at an unheard of price 0f $99, it was an immediate hit. It was beautifully designed and executed, and nothing else came close to it for the money. But, competition has a way of bringing out new alternatives to the game. Case in point is the Astro-Tech 2" Enhanced Aluminum Mirror Diagonal for refractors. Encased in a sexy black anodized all-aluminum housing, it is the clone of the William Optics diagonal, minus the silver brushed aluminum sides.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The Astro-Tech uses a 10mm 1/10th wave Bak 7 optical glass mirror, nestled securely in the aluminum housing. Both the 2" opening and 1.25" adapter use brass compression rings instead of screws, and that means no scrapes or dings on the barrel of your precious oculars. Also, the interior of the body is lined with light absorbing materials to keep light scatter out of the equation. And, of course, it is threaded for filters. The unit weighs in around 17oz and comes with a two year warranty. The price is about about $80.
I use this diagonal on my Orion 100mm f/6 refractor and have been more than pleased with the views, A solid 10 if I ever saw one!!Sort by
