Manufacturer Description
Designed and precision manufactured in Germany, the Docter-UWA 12.5 mm is a premium ultra-wide-angle eyepiece that offers spectacular views of the Moon, planets, and deep-sky objects.
The unique optical design of this eyepiece incorporates principles of progressive lens manufacturing as well as high-end glass found in professional optical instrumentation. With an 84-degree apparent field of view (AFOV) and an anastigmatic design, this eyepiece is completely corrected for spherical aberration, coma, and astigmatism. It gives tack-sharp images of stars right to the edge of the field of view. Surface features on the Moon and planets appear razor sharp with neutral color and minimal chromatic aberration.
In his 2013 book Choosing and Using Astronomical Eyepieces author William Paolini wrote of the Docter UWA: "This eyepiece maintains an outstanding reputation. Considered by some experienced observers as the best 12.5mm eyepiece made and without peer."
Unlike many ultrawide eyepieces, the Docter UWA offers an exceptionally good eye relief of 18 mm which makes it attractive for observers who must wear eyeglasses while observing. It also offers a comfortable viewing experience for all visual observers. With a body diameter of just 55 mm, the eyepiece can be used comfortably in binoviewers over a wide range of interpupillary distances (IPD) for jaw-dropping '3D' views of the Moon, planets, and deep-sky objects.
The Docter UWA 12.5 mm eyepiece has concentric 1.25" and 2" barrels that fit both 1.25" and 2" focusers and star diagonals, so you don't need to change diagonal or eyepiece adapter during your observing sessions. A safety undercut is machined into both barrels to engage the focuser thumbscrew to prevent the eyepiece from falling if the thumbscrew is accidentally loosened.
The eyepiece also includes a soft foldable eyecup to comfortably shield your eye from ambient light to ensure maximum image contrast and brightness.
Using lead and arsenic free optical glass, the Docter UWA eyepiece incorporates 8 lenses arranged in 5 groups. All optical surfaces are anti-reflection coated for high transmission and the brightest possible images. The eyepiece also includes sealing and toroidal rings to ensure it is watertight. The eyepieced accommodates a wide range of filters with standard M28.5x0.6 threads on the 1.25" barrel.

Docter 12.5 Ultra Wide Angle
Pros: Cons: Comments:The Docter 12.5 Ultra Wide Angle is a beautiful eyepiece to hold or observing with most scopes. At the widest point there is a grip ring to firmly hold this substantial wide angle 2" or 1.25" glass. I have used these in 100mm binoculars to get a wonderful fov.

Jan 18, 2018Outstanding eyepiece
Pros: Cons: Comments:Compared this against my 12mm TeleVue Nagler Type 2, 12.5mm Fujiyama Ortho, 11mm TeleVue Plossl, and 10mm TeleVue Delos against a variety of DSOs in an F/5 Newtonian.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
It totally clobbers the Nagler. The field is noticeably wider, easier to take in, and perfectly corrected right to the edge. The Nagler doesn't have anywhere near as good edge correction. I couldn't even see coma at the edges of the Docter. On-axis sharpness is a smidge better as well.
For transmission, sharpness, star size, scatter control, and general clarity, it meets or beats the Fujiyama ortho, but with an 84 degree apparent field and enough eye relief use to use glasses.
The 11mm Plossl beat it for transmission - was able to see the superimposed stars of M108 intermittently with the Plossl, but not the Docter or any other of the eyepieces I tried. This is not surprising though, since few eyepieces will best the transmission of a TV Plossl.
The 10mm Delos wasn't really a head-to-head comparison since it's a different focal length, but Delos in general offers tight stars right to the edge and superb clarity. The Docter matched this impression in every way, but with an 84 degree apparent field.
In general, the field of view is just about the easiest to take in of any eyepiece I've ever used. No blackouts, no finicky eye positioning, no need to mess with an adjustable eye guard. The view "just works".This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:I acquired this exceptional eyepiece from Agena and recently got to spend some quality time with it in my 18" f/4.3 Starmaster. I also have a 13mm Ethos so it was fun to compare the two here and there, though no exhaustive effort was made to do so. With a Paracorr 2, stars appeared sharp out to the edge. Comfortable eye relief, and neutral tone. I hate to overuse superlatives, but the views really were spectacular for showpiece objects. M3 and M13 were nicely resolved and M42 yielded rich texture and detail in the swirling nebulosity. This is destined to be my go-to eyepiece for bright galaxies, as M51, M63, M64, M104, NGC 4565, NGC 4631 (Whale), NGC 4656 (Hockey Stick) all yielded exceptional views. M82 was especially stunning, and the bright areas of new star formation reminded me of lightning inside a cloud. It's too early to say whether I like this better than the 13mm Ethos, my all-time favorite eyepiece, but I already know it's a keeper. Highest possible recommendation and worth every penny.
