Manufacturer Description

Since their introduction in the US market a few years ago, the GSO SuperView series of wide-field eyepieces have taken the amateur astronomy community by storm. These are, by far, the best-selling GSO eyepieces. With an expansive apparent field of view (AFOV) ranging from 60 - 68 degrees, users will experience incredible views without breaking the bank or impinging on your scope's balance.  SuperView eyepieces are available in 2 barrel sizes (1.25" or 2') and 5 focal lengths (ranging from 15mm to 50mm).

Images are virtually free of chromatic aberration or pincushion distortion with excellent flatness of field and eye relief. These eyepieces feature rubber grips on the housing and foldable rubber eyeguards. All eyepieces are fully multicoated, have blackened lens edges for improved contrast, and come with two end caps.

Guan Sheng is a leader in optical telescopes and accessories and their products have been sold for years by the "Big Three" (Meade, Celestron and Orion) under their own brand names. Give these a try - you will not be disappointed!

      5.0 Love the wider FOV

      Pros:

      Cons:

      Comments:

I bought the Apertura 8" Dobsonian and it came with a Superview 30mm, and a 9mm Plossl. I wanted the same type of EP so I bought the GSO Superview 15mm. I am very pleased with the wider view, and the sharp, clear image that it gives. Plus a free eyepeice case!

Haven't had very clear skies since purchased. Did however get one good view of orion's nebula. Overall satisfied with my purchase.

      4.0 GSO 15mm Superview eyepiece

      Pros:

      Strong Construction,Nice Wide Field,Good Planetary Detail,Quality Lenses

      Cons:

      Comments:

I compared this eyepiece to my Teleview plossls. The superview has a little more internal reflections but it shows almost the same detail as the 15mm TV plossl but with wider field, longer eye relief and lower cost. Good value for the money.

      5.0 Quality eyepiece

      Pros:

      Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Compact,Lightweight,Accurate

      Cons:

      Comments:

A well made eyepiece with a wide field, no distortion, and a flat field. The eyepiece is use as a "finder eyepiece" for 80mm f/7 Apo refractor.

5.0 Great Quality for Low price

      Pros:

      Compact,Lightweight,Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Accurate

      Cons:

      Non

      Comments:

Great EP for the price. The AFOV was nice and wide while staying flat in my reflector. No coma problems. Contrast is great. I have a TV 15mm as well as the GSO 15mm and I use them about the same amount. I use the TV for planetary things and the GSO for Messier objects. Surprisingly high quality for such little money.

      Pros:

      Strong Construction,Lightweight,Compact,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses

      Cons:

      Comments:

Not quite a SWA or Panoptic, but really good for the price. Very effective in f/8 and slower scopes. Image quality good enough for double star work.

      5.0 Great Value

      Pros:

      No

      Cons:

      No

      Comments:

I bought this eyepiece as a companion to the 9mm and 25mm Plossl eyepieces that came with my telescope. The large field of view almost matches that of the 25MM. Yes it is less expensive than some of the more well known eyepieces but the image quality was excellent. First night it arrived I used it on the Double Cluster in Perseus (NGC869 & NGC884)...absolutely stunning! I would highly recommend this eyepiece.

      4.0 Excellent Performer!

      Pros:

      Strong Construction,Leight weight,Quality Lenses

      Cons:

      Focus can be tricky

      Comments:

As an avid amateur astronomer and on a budget the 15mm Super Wide was a good choice. It provides a good image on my CPC1100 although focusing requires very fine adjustment. Aberations are very minimal. I would recommend the lens to add to your collection.

      4.0 Quite nice eyepiece

      Pros:

      Strong Construction

      Cons:

      Heavy

      Comments:

Have been using it almost a year and started to kind of like it. Yes, in the fast scope (F4.8) there is a coma on the outer 20% of field but I still prefer this to Plossl design. Good ratio price/product quality.

4.0 Low cost, good quality wide view EP

      Pros:

      Quality Lenses

      Cons:

      Comments:

The 20mm and 15mm are the smaller sizes of the GSO Superview range. Compared to the 50mm, 42mm and 30mm all of which are 2" EPs, these smaller EPs are in the 1.25" form-factor.

Quality of these eyepieces is just as good as their bigger brothers, and makes a nice set if you buy the whole range of sizes. These are a definite step-up from the budget Plossl eyepieces supplied as standard with a new telescope, and work well for higher magnifications such as planetary view of Jupiter and Saturn.

4.0 A good value vs. price

      Pros:

      Accurate,Strong Construction

      Cons:

      Comments:

Good eye piece to use both for deepsky and hi-res. It's an all-round eye-piece, good choice in terms of low price and good quality

      5.0 Great quality eyepiece

      Pros:

      Sharpness,Clearness,Image quality

      Cons:

      Comments:

This eyepiece has a great FOV, turning it very good for deep-sky and object searching. It is the first eyepiece I use in every session. The glasses and coatings quality make it very clear and free of internal reflections. It has good eye relief too. I have also made afocal astrophotography with this eyepiece with good results despite the vignetting, which it is normal.

      Pros:

Very good image with ETX,Good value,Decent eye relief

      Cons:

      None

      Comments:

I bought this from Agena Astroproducts to use with my Meade ETX-125. This eyepiece works very well with the Meade ETX-125 which is a f/15. It has worked very well for lunar observation. Image is crisp..no reflections. I wear glasses and found the eye relief was OK.

4.0 Great buy for the money

      Pros:

      Good WA mid-power EP

      Cons:

      Mild edge aberration

      Comments:

I have BT-80 tele-binoculars that are usually a big hit at Public Star Parties. We've found most first timers and novice do best with a medium power, wide angle eyepiece. Rather than take an expensive pair of mid-power eyepieces I started looking for a reasonably priced pair of 14 to 18mm EPs. Having had a good experience with a GSO 30mm SuperView I decided to try a pair of their 15mm SuperView. They've been as nice a surprise as the 30mm SuperView. While these eyepieces will not compare with more expensive eyepieces, they work much better than the others in the same price range. The wide view is perfect for the novice and the central 60+% FOV is on par with any plossl I've used so you get as wide a clear FOV as a plossl but have the additional 'immersion' effect of the wide field. It's also easier for folks to keep the target object in view with the wider FOV. The roughly 15mm eye relief is sufficient for most people although a little tight for people with eyeglasses (Still, it's a lot better than most 15mm plossls). These eyepieces have surprising detail and contrast for the price. These eyepieces do have problems with aberration in the outer edge, especially in a fast scope. With the BT-80 achromats they exhibit some color aberration on bright objects but a simple UV filter corrects it nicely. The central FOV is sharp and crisp but as you move outward past about 2/3's to 3/4's of the FOV you'll start to notice aberrations. In an f/10 scope this is much less noticeable until the very edge but in a faster scope like an f/5 it's more obvious. I would still recommend this eyepiece to anyone looking for a wide field eyepiece for a few dollars more than a plossl.

      Pros:

Good value, very good image with ETX-125. Decent eye relief for eyeglass wearers.

      Cons:

For the price, a good eyepiece for moderate magnification with a f/15 Mak.
