Manufacturer Description
GSO's 2" 2x ED Barlow is perhaps the best barlow of its kind on the market today, and one of our perennial best-sellers. This barlow uses two-element, fully-multicoated lenses made from special ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) glass for excellent color correction and sharpness. The lens edges are blackened to maximize image contrast. The clear aperture is 37mm so you can use even 2" wide-angle eyepieces without vignetting.
The body is precision CNC-machined from aluminum and sports a handsome finish that you would usually find on much higher priced items. The barlow comes with a 2"-1.25" adapter so it can be used with 1.25" or 2" eyepieces. The barlow tube and the 1.25" adapter both feature brass compression rings so the set-screw will not scratch your eyepiece barrels.
A really nice feature of this GSO barlow is that the barlow element is housed in a separate metal cell at the bottom that can be unscrewed from the upper tube (see photos). You can then screw the barlow cell directly into 2" eyepieces with a standard 2" filter thread to increase the magnification of that particular eyepiece while still maintaining a low profile. When screwed into an eyepiece, the barlow will yield approximately 1.5x of magnification. So, for example, a 30mm eyepiece can be used with the barlow element screwed on as a 20mm eyepiece, or with the complete barlow as a 15mm eyepiece. That's like having three eyepieces in one! You can also use the tube by itself without the barlow element as a 27mm (1.1") extension tube for 2" eyepieces and accessories.
Note that the use of any optical element like barlows and focal reducers changes the focus point of your telescope, requiring additional in-focus or out-focus travel. This GSO 2" 2x ED barlow will require at least 19mm (0.75") or more of additional in-focus travel. The exact amount of focus travel required will depend on the optics and mechanics of your specific set-up (telescope, diagonal (if used), barlow, and eyepiece). Hence, be aware that you may not be able to reach focus with all eyepieces or in all configurations with a given barlow.

Pros: Cons: Comments:Was surprised by the high quality and all-metal, heavy-duty construction of the slotted 2" casing with it's matched-set 1.25 adapter.

Excellent large ED Barlow.
I am well pleased with it after use in both my Bresser AR 152L/1200 and Exp Sci 203/1200 Newtonian. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Nov 24, 20182” 2x Barlow lens #gs22b
Pros: Cons: Comments:Have a 30mm 2” lens. Bought a 2x Barlow lens,Agena Astro sent them in record time, they are clear as can be, but, wish I would have bought a 3x Barlow instead of 2x not much difference.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 8, 2018GSO 2" ED barlow

Aug 25, 2018GSO 1.25 in barlow
Pros: Cons: Comments:Great product for not a lot "out of pocket" money. Well made and solid. Nice feature- bottom lens in barlow can be unscrewed and screwed onto my other 1.25 eyepieces to give them a bit of increased magnification.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 10, 2018Wonderful for use with my 2" eyepieces and with my Baader Hyperio
Pros: Cons: Comments:I purchased this barlow over a year ago so I could barlow my 2" eyepieces in my 8" Dob. Works great with excellent images. Very happy with it and have recommended it to friends.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
You can also remove the barlow element and attach it directly to the 2" eyepieces give you a third magnification.
When I got the Baader Hyperion 8-24 zoom, BHZ, I used it with this 2X barlow also. Works GREAT!
Recently I realized I could remove the barlow element and attach it to the 2" adapter that comes with the BHZ. This gives me 1.5X taking the BHZ from 8-24m to 5.3-16 mm which is an even better range for my Dob.
Comparing the image in the BHZ/1.5X to my ES 82 8.8 and 6.7mm I find the image to be quite comparable though naturally not as wide. I love the ES82s, but rarely use them since I got the BHZ. And now that I have the BHZ matched to the 1.5x barlow element it is perfectly matched to my scope.
If I want to use the BHZ in the low range, or in one of my 1.25" scopes I just take it out of the adapter. If I want to use it in the mid range I put it back in the adapter that has this 1.5X element. And if I want to use ti in the high range I put the element back on the GSO barlow tube.
If you have a use for a 2" barlow or if you have a zoom that you want to extend, this one is great!
Some 1.25" to 2" adapters are threaded for filters. So this should work with any 1.25 to 2" adapter that can take filters meaning the combination of the barlow element and any 1.25" eyepiece now offers you a 1.5X barlow for you 1.25" eyepieces.
Very flexible barlow. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 9, 2018GSO Barlow

Jan 14, 2018Very Pleased!
Pros: Cons: Comments:This is the best item I have gotten from Agena to date. The quality fit, price, versatility and service can not be beat by anyone. I will always come back to Agena first

Dec 24, 2017Excellent and useful astro-photography tool
Pros: Cons: Comments:We used this Barlow to reach prime focus on our astro-photography setup on a Dob Newtonian not meant for imaging and got great results. It is a solid product and the glass is of high optical quality. No reason to buy a more expensive Barlow. I like that you can use it to get either 1.5x or 2x increased magnification.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 30, 20172X barlow
Pros: Cons: Comments:I am using this barlow for visual and imaging application. The features are very nice and it works great. Compares well to higher price barrows.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 25, 2017Excellent quality, affordable accessory!
Pros: Cons: Comments:I recently got this unit and I am impressed. It is very multi-functional: I can thread it onto my 2" EPs for a ~1.7x magnifying factor, or use as a 2x with the stock assembly. Multi-coatings are very nice, and the fit and finish of this accessory is on par or better than some more expensive models I have owned in the past. Well worth the money if you need a high value, affordable high quality 2" Barlow that won't leave you penniless.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 1, 2017Versatile Barlow
Pros: Cons: Comments:I purchased this barlow specifically for the detachable lens cell which I can attach directly to my diagonal or to an eyepiece for magnification changes when using my night vision optics. I have been very pleased with the performance and especially appreciate its versatility. I have even used it with its native barrel for a full 2x magnification. Nice fit and finish; nice performance; great versatility and price.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jun 14, 2017Nice Quality Barlow
Pros: Cons: Comments:I bought this for my 8" dob and my refractors. First, the quality is excellent. Fit and finish are superb. I like being able to remove the element and install it directly on the EP which gives 1.5X. This barlow is a bit heavy for my refractors so I just use the element without the barrel on those scopes. It's fantastic on my dob. Stars are sharp and Jupiter and Saturn are just so much bigger, yet still well defined. This barlow was a great investment at a very attractive price.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Mar 29, 2017GSO 2X Barlow
Pros: Cons: Comments:Great Barlow lens. Wonderful fit and function plus the ability to unscrew the lower element and attach to 2" eyepieces for magnification.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Oct 8, 2016A must have for beginners
Pros:Strong Construction,Accurate,Easy to Use
Cons:Heavy
Comments:As with many GSO products, quality and price ratio are good. The amount of options (extender, adapter, magnification, etc. ) it provides is superb. The only downside is its weight but the fit, finish, versatility and performance are great. Yes there will be better barlows out there, but for beginners with limited EP options or for someone who wants an affordable yet efficient barlow, there is no better option. I have been using it for more than a year and it will be in my main EP case for many more.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 14, 2016Good piece of glass
Pros:Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Durable Construction,Strong Construction
Cons:Heavy
Comments:Since my eyepiece collection is limited at the moment, I needed something to give me more flexibility without a huge investment in several more eyepieces. This barlow took care of that at a cost I could live with, doubling my collection for the price of one good eyepiece. Views are good edge to edge. Its one drawback is the weight... it ain't light, so I try to balance with the barlow installed.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Dec 29, 2015Better than the much more expensive models very versatile
Pros:Quality Lenses,Accurate
Cons: Comments:When I first tried this it was a tight fit in my Televue 2 inch everbright star diagonal (there's nothing wrong with that) but a few minutes of touching up the bottom edge of the lens cell with an emory board nail file resolved that so now it slides in and out ok... optically it's excellent, very good image quality, sharp clear rich colors I like it better than the much more expensive models.... it's very versatile the Lens cell can be attached directly to an eyepiece, also I ordered the blue fireball 35mm 2 inch extension ... I like it with that as it's a little bit lower magnification than the 2x version, and works better with my eyepieces ... testing with the panoptic 27 mm in my C6 SCT f10 was very good, same with the ES 82
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 14, 2015Ok for the money..
Pros:Easy to Use,Strong Construction
Cons:Poor Lens Quality,Difficult To Focus
Comments:I remove the lens and use the shell for my Neximage5 camera more than anything..It is difficult to focus..Image is fuzzy under any power..Probably should have returned it now that I think about it..Save your money and buy something with more quality lenses..
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? NoThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jun 26, 2015Great quality, features, value
Pros:Quality Lenses,Strong Construction,Multi-functional
Cons: Comments:I use this for boosting magnification for plantery viewing. Works very well. Long tube allows use as extender, which helps me. Excellent high quality construction, great adapter 2" - 1-1/4". Love it!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jun 26, 2015An Excellent Product
Pros:Accurate,Compact,Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Excellent workmanship
Cons: Comments:A beaautifully made piece of equipment at fantastic prices. And . . . Agena are always a pleasure to deal with.

Mar 17, 2015Best 2" 2x Barlow
Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Inexpensive
Cons:Heavy
Comments:This is simply a must-have for anyone serious about planetary imaging. The lenses are flawless; the machining is excellent, and the fit & finish is well above what one might expect at this price. Extremely happy with this Barlow; it's my go-to tool for planetary imaging.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Feb 1, 2015Triple Duty Barlow Lens
Pros:Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:Besides being a wonderful 2X Barlow, the lens element can be removed and added to any GSO Eyepiece providing a 1.5X magnification. The empty Barlow barrel can then be used as an extender. So with one product you get a 2X Barlow, a 1.5X Barlow and a 30mm extender.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
That's a triple duty Barlow! This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 5, 2014This is a 'must have' accessory
Pros:Accurate,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction
Cons:Heavy
Comments:What a great accessory to have with my 8" and 12" Dobs. The 2" width provides clear, wide views.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? No
Bonus: The Barlow lens unscrews from its tube and can be attached directly to any 2" eyepiece, providing 1.5x magnification. Therefore, each 2" eyepiece you own is now three lenses: 1x, 1.5x and 2x. Of course, any 1.5" eyepiece you own will now be 1x and 2x.
Note: On my Dobs, when I thread the Barlow lens directly onto the bottom of the 2" 30mm eyepiece, I need to pull back and secure the eyepiece about 1/2" back from being fully seated in order to get focus. Not a problem at all, just pointing it out.
Trick: If you have your Dob carefully balanced for finger-tip movement, this heavy Barlow will cause the nose to droop. I use a magnet to hold a towel on the tube towards the bottom as a counterbalance, rather than cranking the alt knobs tighter. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Aug 18, 2014Perfect and cheap Barlow. 100% satisfied
Pros:Quality Lenses,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:I was searching for an APO Barlow 2" for beginning in astrophotography and this was perfect by quality and price.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 30, 2014Great Companion to Improved Views!
Pros:Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Accurate
Cons: Comments:I bought this to replace the cheap barlow that I initially purchased when buying my telescope in March 2014. I have an Agena 2" Super Wide Angle (SWA) 26mm eyepiece and with these two items I do not even feel the need to take anything else with me when I go out to explore.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 30, 2014Great value!!!
Pros:Quality Lenses,Easy to Use,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:Proof you don't have to spend a small fortune to get good quality. Very pleased with this purchase and how affordable it was. Easy way to double my 2" Eyepieces.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Dec 3, 2013Pretty good barlow if you're on a budget
Pros:Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Lightweight
Cons:Chromatic aberration
Comments:Good barlow if you're on a tight budget. You can also unscrew the lens element and attach it to any of your 2 inch eyepiece for a magnification factor of 1.5x. Has slight chromatic aberration when viewing bright planets.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Nov 29, 2013Great 2x Barlow
Pros:Quality Lenses,Easy to Use,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:This is pretty much plug-and-play. Insert the Barlow into the focuser, insert your eyepiece into the Barlow, focus, and start enjoying the scene at twice the magnification. You do lose a little light, but that's to be expected---you're looking through more glass. Great product.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 28, 2013Excellent quality
Pros:Excellent quality,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses
Cons:None
Comments:I have several of the Agena SWA eyepieces. Their quality and performance is superb and this barlow is no different. I have been very happy with every Agena item purchased and they are an excellent value.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 27, 2013Multi-use product
Pros:Accurate,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Lightweight,Strong Construction,Compact
Cons: Comments:Both the Barlow lens and the body can be used together or separately. You can unscrew lens and then screw the Barlow lens directly to an eyepiece to lower power gain. The supplied body has a very low profile 1.25 to 2 inch adapter and can be used without Barlow as a 2 inch extender. Body can handle 2 inch eyepieces by simply removing the 1.25 to 2 inch adapter. A good value for the money.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 27, 2013Great Optics

Jul 28, 2013Eyepiece range enhancement.
Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Accurate

Feb 8, 2013Large format Barlow
Pros:Lightweight,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:This Barlow appears to be well made with a rubber grip ring. It mounts solidly in the diagonal and the 2 inch eye peices Orion 26 and 38 are held well. Tolerances are good for loading and unloading the objectives without too much slop. Brass retainer rings and knobs are very functional. Views of Jupiter and the Trapezium are best uses so far to extend the magnification of the two lens. Device has been getting double duty between Nexstar 8 and Meade LX90 12. I guess you can tell, I like the larger format observing. Haven't found any down sides to this peice so far. It does it's job as designed.

Feb 8, 2013Very nice barlow Lens
Pros:Accurate,Compact,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction,Lightweight
Cons: Comments:The GSO ED Barlow is an all around EXCELLENT barlow lens. The lenses are really well made, coatings are top notch and a nice dark green color, and the housing that holds it is very well machined and light in weight.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The thumb screws on these are nice and large and can easily be used with gloves on and the piece that holds the lens elements can be unscrewed and threaded onto the bottom of any of my eyepieces in my case which gives most of my eyepieces a 1.4x magnification boost.
When the full barlow is in use, it actually magnifies at 2.2x for most of my eyepieces. Another thing I tried was to unscrew the bottom lens element and I can thread it onto my 2 inch blue fireball extension tube for a magnification factor of 1.9x giving me the equivalent of 2 barlows.
Great barlow ~ Highly recommended!!! :)This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Dec 27, 2012Excellent Barlow Lens!
Pros:Strong Construction,Lightweight,Compact,Accurate,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:I purchased the 2" GSO ED barlow here from Agena Astro. IMO, this is an excellent buy with good quality optics. The coatings have gotten better since these last surfaced years ago. A big bonus with this barlow is being able to unscrew the lens element and putting it on the threads of my 2" adapters for a mag of about 1.4x. I also use the lens element on my 35mm 2" Blue Fireball Extension Tube, (which can also be purchased here at Agena Astro), giving me a mag factor of 1.9x. So, in essence, this barlow can function as three different barlows in one! Weight-wise, this 2" GSO ED barlow is very light and won't add too much weight to your eyepiece chain. This ED barlow when used itself gives me a magnification factor of around 2.2x with all of my eyepieces because I use an Antares Twist Lock Adapter on all of my 1.25" eyepieces! Highly recommended! Agena Astro ROCKS!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
CLEAR SKIES!This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Dec 1, 2012Just got my 2" GSO Barlow.
Pros:Accurate,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction,Compact
Cons: Comments:Excellent bargain: cost vs. quality! Every featrure worked well and would recommend it to anyone.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Oct 2, 2012Excellent
Pros:Strong Construction,Multi-Purpose,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:This 2" 2x Barlow is great if you don't want the extra weight just detach the lens from the body and you can use it directly on your 2" eyepiece the same way you use a filter. Another great thing is that a 1.25" adapter is included so you can use your small 1.25 eyepieces with this barlow. You also can use the lens section with your prime focus adapter that will greatly reduce the weight that your telescope is carryng at the eye piece holder and the lenght of the whole array is reduced. Great piece to have in your collection. I have two of them that I use combined with a prime focus adapter and filters and a DSLR to take pictures of the "core" of targets like M42, NGC869, NGC884, Moon etc. Remember that using a Barlow will always reduce the brightnes of the image and if you push the magnification limit of your telescope the image becomes a little blurry and that you will notice more atmospheric distortion.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 21, 2012Big Barlow for Small Price
Pros:Accurate,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:Use 2" diagonals and eyepieces at 2X the power. The lens assembly unscrews to attach directly to most 2" eyepieces.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 21, 2012Works as advertised
Pros:Easy to Use,Strong Construction,Accurate,Compact,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:I'm new to astronomy so take this for what it's worth. This lens appears like a really really fine instrument! I especially like how you can use it in like three different ways. Included a 2" to 1.25" adapter also of excellent quality. The only eyepiece I have is the Baader Hyperion Mark-3 Click-Stop Zoom 8-24mm. The GSO 2" 2x ED Barlow Lens pairs with this eyepiece very well.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? NoThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 14, 2012Incredible Value!
Pros:Easy to Use,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:Tonight, in very light polluted skies (Phoenix) - I was able to bring Saturn into a nice focus at 373x magnification by pairing up the Barlow with the Explore Scientific 82 degree 6.7mm on my Z10. The view of Saturn looked the same with and without the Barlow (although it was much larger with the barlow obviously) with no discernable distortion.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 1, 2012SUPERB
Pros:Accurate,Strong Construction,Compact,Easy to Use
Cons: Comments:Just received my Barlow today. Let me tell you, Agena takes very good care in the way they pack and ship their items. I swear there was so much packing paper and bubble wrap that this thing did not move a mm in the box. Nice storage box too. I will without a doubt order from them again
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Feb 24, 2012Superb barlow
Pros:Quality Lenses,Strong Construction
Cons:Heavy
Comments:It doesn't distort the image at all. As if it wasn't even there. Just great.

Dec 26, 2011My Favorite Barlow!
Pros:Two in One Barlow,Strong Construction,Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Accurate
Cons: Comments:I use this barlow both normally (2X) and with the bottom lens being screwed into an eyepiece (1.5X)-- effectively making it a two in one barlow. The views are excellent!! I thus save from buying other eyepieces. I had read the excellent reviews before I bought- still wasn't sure but bought it anyway. I have been extremely happy with my decision and so will you. This is a great 2" barlow at a great price-- my favorite.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Dec 25, 2011LOOK NO FURTHER!
Pros:Quality Lenses,Strong Construction,Accurate,Easy to Use
Cons:None
Comments:This is by far the best barlow at any price!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Clear to the edges at low and high magnifications. If you have a 2 inch focuser you should have this barlow in your set. I love it!This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Nov 8, 2011Nice Barlow with options!
Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Easy to Use,Compact,Accurate
Cons: Comments:The usefulness of this lens is greatly increased by the way it is designed to come apart. It can easily be adapted to your personal needs, if you need the lens only to screw into another adapter or what have you that's easy. The tube gives you a little more focal length when you need it and the 2 inch lens adapter works just as expected. A good purchase that increased the usefulness of my other equipment.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
It is well made and works right. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Oct 28, 2011The larger, the better!
Pros:Easy to Use,Quality Lenses,Accurate,Strong Construction
Cons:None
Comments:Perfect to use with a GSO Crayford focuser.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Very good lens quality.
Strong design : no problem when using a 2" ring + T2 + digital reflex cameraThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Oct 26, 2011Excellent 2" Barlow
Pros:Quality Lenses,Strong Construction,Accurate,Easy to Use
Cons:None
Comments:I've used this to barlow my 22T4 Nagler, using it both as a 2X (11mm) and, by screwing in the lens to the Nagler, as a 1.5X (14.6mm). Both combinations have been outstanding with wonderful sharp views. I also plan to use it with a 35 Panoptic. I would suggest that, if using it in the 1.5X mode, you screw in the lens BEFORE going out under the night sky as you wouldn't want to drop the ep or the lens out there. This is a highly constructed barlow that can be used for 2 additional magnifications and it's at a great price. You can't go wrong.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 4, 2011Very nice Barlow!
Pros:Price,Easy to Use,Strong Construction
Cons:None
Comments:I am very happy with this Barlow. Its built like a tank! The fact that the lens unscrews and you can screw it into an eyepiece for 1.5X makes it that much more versatile. It comes with a 1.25 to 2inch adapter too! Everything is a nice snug fit, no play or slop in the focuser or with an EP inserted at all. Highly recommended.

May 30, 2011Well made Barlow as nice as my Tele Vue
Pros:Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:This is a quality Barlow. I was pleasantly surprised at the craftsmanship of the piece. I also like that I can remove the Barlow unit from the assembly and screw it directly into the eyepiece for a 1.5X. So it is a 2 for 1. I have to mention again what a strong and quality piece this is. Even the 1.5" adapter is precision milled. I was a machinist/tooler for 10 years, I know what I'm looking at here, and they have some tight tolerances on their product. Very nicely built, with outstanding optics. I have this paired with a 30mm Meade QX Wide angle, and it has been all I ever needed for a night of casual viewing. Highly recommended!

Mar 28, 2011money well spent
Pros:Best deal going
Cons:NOTHING
Comments:I use this in all 3 of my scopes and it works great. Build quality, looks, all are first rate. I have the GSO 2" diagonal, the 2" 40mm eyepiece also and when all of this is hooked up to my AT72 - what can I say - it's just plain sexy. They all work great together
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesDec 26, 2010GSO 2" 2x ED Barlow Lens
Pros:Reliable 2" barlow,Accurate,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:It's a fine Barlow lens that doubles the magnification very clearly. Excellent price and very sturdy construction.

Jun 13, 2010Best Barlow I've Ever Owned
Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:I bought this Barlow and the Blue Fireball 2"-to-1.25" High Profile Eyepiece Adapter. Now I have a great 2x Barlow and when I screw the Barlow lens into the Blue Fireball 2"-to-1.25" High Profile Eyepiece Adapter I get great 1.5x performance. Between the two I effectively purchased 4 new eyepieces. Now I have one great Barlow that works with both my 1.25" and 2" eyepieces and I only need to purchase 2" filters in the future.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I spent several hours the other night going through all the possible combinations using this Barlow and the Blue Fireball 2"-to-1.25" High Profile Eyepiece Adapter with all of my eyepieces. I purchased the 14mm and 28mm Baader 2" adapter rings which will provide me with more power choices. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
May 1, 2010Classy designwork
Pros:Quality Lenses
Cons:Heavy
Comments:Classy deignwork and good quality workmanship. Quality lenses, but heavy and bulky. It is a 2" barlow though and does the job it's designed for.

Apr 30, 20102" Barlow...a must have. Multipurpose!
Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:I needed a 2" Barlow to keep up with my increasing collection of 2" EP's and I already had a good experience with GSO EP's, so again for the price I took it on faith and I am not sorry. It works like a barlow should with the added bonus of being able to remove one of the lenses to make it a 1.5x barlow..and I use it as a focal extender for AP on a small refractor when using a DSLR. I use this thing all the time! It is a steal for the price.

Feb 11, 2010Great 2" barlow for your buck
Pros:Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:I needed a decent 2" barlow this one from GSO filled the bill. I like the fact that you can unscrew the lens portion and put it on the eyepiece and it will give you 1.5X. It's like having 3 eyepieces.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesThis review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Feb 11, 2010Amazing quality and a bargain price
Pros:Strong Construction,Quality Lenses
Cons: Comments:This is an amazingly high quality 2" Barlow lens, especially considering it is priced at the range more usual for 1.25" parts.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I've used this for a few months now, and find it very useful to 'barlow up' the larger 2" eyepieces such as the GSO 30mm, rather than change over to a 15mm eyepiece.
The construction is very solid, and I had no problem hanging my Canon T1i with T-adapter onto the rear of the GSO Barlow - no flex or other issues. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Sep 7, 2009More Choices = More Views!
Pros:Quality Lenses,Accurate,Compact,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:This was recommended to me on the Cloudy Nights astronomy forums, and I'm glad I listened. The ability to unscrew the bottom lens from the barlow and put it directly on your existing eyepiece gives you three choices instead of two: regular, 2x, and 1.5x! I use it in both my 4.5 Starblast reflector and my 8" Dobsonian reflector with no problems at all. Great value!

Sep 3, 20090 out of 1 people found this review usefulWell worth it.
Pros:Great views, many options, affordable
Cons:None
Comments:Works very well with my 8" dob. I wanted the capability to Barlow both my 2" lenses and my 1.25" lenses and that's what you get with this piece of equipment.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
You can also remove the Barlow lens from the tube and connect it directly to your 2" lens for a 1.5 boost which is very handy. 3 mags with one lens can't be beat.
Quality construction, flawless lens, no problems. If you are considering this lens buy with confidence. It works great and its well made. Period.zanti-misfit New Member

Aug 27, 2009Super Barlow!!
Pros:Accurate,Strong Construction,Quality Lenses,Compact
Cons: Comments:Got this to use with my 8" Dob f5.9 and I'm very happy that I did. A perfect match! Crystal clear views, like its not there at all. The magnification boost certainly is though, and it works flawlessly. I used this with both my 2" 26mm lens and my 9mm 1.25" lens and they both came into focus perfectly. Great views of Jupiter, up close and personal. Clear as a bell. The 1.5x option for the 2" lens also worked very well. I did have to back the 26mm lens out of the barrel, just a tad, to get some "out focus" room to play with. But I was expecting that and it focused nicely no problem. Truly an awesome addition that I will certainly make use of.Qualty product with great performance. Couldn't be happier with this Barlow. Highly recommended.

Aug 5, 2009Versatile barlow at an excellent price!
Pros:Quality Lenses,Versatile,Quality Construction
Cons: Comments:This is a very high quality barlow that rivals those costing many times more. The mechanical construction is top notch and the compression ring holds eyepieces securely. The lens is fully multicoated and provides an increase in magnification with no noticeable degradation of the image.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Plus, there are a variety of ways you can use it. Insert it between eyepiece and scope for a standard 2x barlow. Remove the lens portion and use it as a 2" extension tube. Add a filter to the bottom of the tube so you can swap eyepieces without moving the filter. Screw the lens part directly onto the filter threads of any 2" eyepiece for a lesser increase in magnification.
It serves many purposes while only taking up one spot in your eyepiece case. And it's a bargain! Highly recommended! This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Jul 11, 20092 out of 2 people found this review usefulGreat barlow
Pros:Image quality, construction quality, versatility
Cons:Tight fit in focuser
Comments:The GSO 2" ED barlow is an excellent buy. I have used it with both 2" and 1.25" eyepieces and had no problems with image quality whatsoever. It can be taken apart and attached directly to a 2" eyepiece but I have not tried this yet. There is one niggle, however, I sometimes have a little difficulty inserting it into the focuser of my 10" Lightbridge. I think the tolerances are a little tight. I have not heard this issue with anyone else so it might just be an isolated case.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesMay 31, 2009Perfect first-time Barlow
Pros:Quality Lenses,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:I recently purchased this ED barlow lens for my 10" f/4.7 dob. This has been a great addition to my small collection of telescope accessories.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Both the 1.25" adapter and 2" eyepiece end have brass compressions rings, which minimize damage to eyepieces due to over-tightening.
Coupled with my 25mm and 10mm plossls, this barlow provides amazingly clear images across the whole range of observation settings. There is no noticable distortion in the optics of the barlow that would otherwise have rendered its magnification useless. As an example, my 10mm eyepiece in this ED barlow provided enough magnification without distortion to allow me to view Jupiter's Giant Red Spot!
Overall, this has been one of the most rewarding purchases I have made for my telescope. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

May 28, 2009It's a Multipurpose Barlow
Pros:Accurate
Cons:None
Comments:This barlow is great. It makes all my 2" eyepieces 3 in 1 by unscrewing the barlow element and screwing on the eyepieces making it 1.5 x power. I Also use it to rear view laser collimate my scope. It can also be used as a 1.25 adapter. I have another 1.25 barlow and plan on selling it because the GSO works so well. I would recommend it to anyone!

May 26, 2009WOW - Very pleased with this barlow...
Pros:Quality Lenses,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:I just purchased a 10" dob, and with the recommendations from folks on Cloudy Nights I purchased this GSO Barlow.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I am really well pleased with it. It is very well made considering its price. The 1.25" adapter and the 2" eyepiece end have brass compression rings which are gentle on your eyepieces.
Using my 10" Zhumell dob, I tested the standard 9mm and 30mm wide view that came with the scope.
Busted M13 apart with the 30mm VERY nicely. I have never seen M13 that nice through a scope in my life. I would buy this barlow again in a heartbeat, and recommend it to anyone. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

May 12, 2009A really fine Barlow
Pros:Accurate,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:I bought this not for visual use, but to increase image size doing AP with my short f/ratio apo refractor. It works beautifully in that capacity.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The other night I put my 10mm Pentax XW into it for visual use with my 6" f/8 achro refractor. All I can say is "WOW".
I've had Barlow's and Barlow like devices before, and none were better than this one.
It also is rather short, and not very heavy for a 2" Barlow, keeping things compact. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 9, 2009Awesome
Pros:Comfortable Eyepiece,Accurate,Quality Lenses,Strong Construction
Cons: Comments:I used this Barlow last night to view Saturn. Wow! It was the first time that I had viewed Saturn through a telescope, and the rings were visible and I could see the little dots around Saturn that are its moons. Due to its price and its quality, I highly recommend!

Apr 4, 2009Awesome barlow lens, excellent quality
Pros:Good quality, good lens, crip images, all metal
Cons:Weight, but it is also normal for its size
Comments:I have bought this barlow lens and I am really impressed with its quality and versatility. I can use it as an adaptor to 1.25 eyepieces just by taking the lens out. It is a barlow for 1.25 and 2" eyepieces, it's interior is black, minimizing reflections, and the final image is sharp and crisp, very good. I'm also using it to get more focal length in astrophotography.

Mar 23, 2009GSO 2" 2X ED Barlow
Pros:Good build and optics
Cons:None really
Comments:The GSO Barlow is really very well made considering its price. The 1.25" adapter and the 2" eyepiece end have brass compression rings so they are gentle on your eyepieces. The lens has nice greenish coatings with no apparent flaws visible. Using my 12.5" Discovery dob, I tested both a GSO Super View 30mm and the Panoptic 19mm with the barlow. My view of M42 with the 19mm Panoptic in this Barlow was awesome and I could just make out all 6 stars in the Trapezium. With the 19mm in place I pointed my scope at Saturn and the image was very bright and sharp. I made out the Cassini Division with no problem at all. The GSO 30mm in this barlow performed just as well giving sharp bright images. I am quite impressed with this barlow. It's definitely a keeper and a bargain at its price point. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Feb 2, 2009GSO 2" ED 2x barlow
Pros:Quality Construction,Versatile configurations,Excellent price,Quality Optics
Cons:No bolt case
Comments:I recently decided to try some 2" eyepieces having never owned one before. This brought up the need for a 2" barlow, but which one? Since I have two achromatic refractors, I need to use a minus V filter and skyglow filter. My filters are 2" and I usually use them on the nosepiece of my WO 2" diagonal.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The GSO 2" barlow has so many features and is so versatile and such a reasonable price I could not pass it up! When I received the barlow I was amazed at the evident quality and the configuration possibilities are like a "Transformer".
Both the main tube and the 1.25" adapter have brass compression rings but both also are threaded for 2" filters. This allows me to have my two filters installed on the barlow when using 1.25" eyepieces or one on the barlow, one on a 2" eyepiece and one on the diagonal if necessary! The barlow without the optics can be used as an extension tube and the optics can be threaded onto an eyepiece.
The optics are excellent and the coatings are a beautiful green indicating FMC. I was so impressed that when I saw a used one on Astromart, I purchased that one as well and gave it to a good friend who is as impressed as I am.This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Nov 27, 2008GSO 2" ED 2x barlow
Pros:Value for Money,Practicality,Design,Optical performance,Build
Cons:May be quite heavy but,None really
Comments:The field of view with my Canon 30D coupled to my Celestron C8-N is wide but sometimes too wide so a good 2" Barlow was the obvious choice. I found the GSO 2" ED Barlow was very reasonably priced for ED specifications so I took the plunge and bought one.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
This unit is superbly built with very good optical performance, photographically or visually. What I like about this unit is its excellent design. The Barlow cell can be un-screwed from the main tube so the lens cell will then screw directly into any 48mm female thread as on my T-mount or 2" eyepiece giving another option of about 1.5x. The Lens cell will accept 48mm 2" filters. The eyepiece attachment also screws off from the tube and will screw directly on to my SCT focal reducer allowing for more attachment options. I have not yet tried to fit the eyepiece attachment directly to my Mak as a visual back so I'm not sure if this is possible.
This is definitely a Best Buy.This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Nov 19, 2008GSO 2" ED 2x barlow
Pros:Excellent craftsmanship,Why pay 100's more,Unbeatable price,Great optics
Cons:Not available 10 yrs ago
Comments:I have been interested in observational astronomy for many years. I am very biased toward optical excellence in my telescopes and eyepieces. Having made a number of mirrors, my goal is to produce an optic as close to perfection as possible. I HATE SO-SO optics.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Over the years I have upgraded my eyepiece collection to 2" widefield Meade 40mm and 32mm, Panoptic 22mm, Axiom 19mm 2", Meade 14mm UWA (4000series), Meade 8.8mm Ultrawide. I have been contemplating adding a few more to fill in the gaps. I have not been much of a fan for barlows over the years, but I have been tempted by this GSO 2" ED barlow. I figured for that price if its a bust it would surely make a nice paperweight if need be.
I took the plunge and ordered one through Agena. It arrived in 4 days. I was skeptical as I was unpacking it, as to what I would find. My friend Vince who is another telescope nut like myself, was over the house as I was unpacking the barlow. To our utter surprise we could not believe what we saw. The craftsmanship was first class. Both the 1.25" adapter and the 2" eyepiece end had compression ring holders. The fit and finish of the product far exceeded our expectations. The optic itself has beautiful green multicoatings. The coating had NO flaws. At this point I was feeling pretty good about the barlow, but it would have to wait for a nite under the stars to see if it performed as good as it looked.
Using my 6" skywatcher refractor with a 2" Antares diagonal, I tested both a Meade 32mm SWA and the Panoptic 22mm with the barlow. In a word I was quite impressed. I never once felt like the barlow was getting in the way of the beautiful image of M42 and the trapezium I was observing. Comfortable, sharp and contrasty is all I can say. With the 22 in place I swung over to Saturn. It was sharp as a tack. I now can't wait to try it out with my 16" dob. I am quite impressed with this barlow. It's definitely a keeper and a best buy. I highly recommend this barlow to complement your eyepiece collection. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com

Nov 17, 2008GSO 2" ED Barlow
Pros:Great color accuracy,Wide field 2" design,Excellent build quality,Great clarity
Cons:Weight
Comments:I've been interested in astronomy in one way or another for 30+ years now and for most of that time a Barlow lens was little more than an empty promise, let down by those long plastic tubes with tacky foil labels attached that promised to double or triple the 'power' of eyepieces inserted into them. What a waste of plastic!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Anyway, things seem to have changed over the last several years as some sort of concensus seems to have been reached as to the minimum standard of usability required for optical equipment used by non-professional astronomers.
One of the prime examples of this can be seen in the rise of far eastern optical manufacturers such as GSO and for me their 2xED Barlow takes what they do best and then improves on it.
I got one of these Barlows about 6 months ago as it looked very tempting in the ads and promised all the right things, with it's 2" fitting making it even more versatile.
When I received it, I was immediately impressed with its perceived quality and the lens multi-coatings seemed to promise much.
In use it was a revelation. Of course there are other Barlows that are probably just as good but that low price makes it nearly miraculous!
I suppose one way of defining a good Barlow lens is the degree to which it disappears in use, giving greater magnification but nothing else. Measured that way I'd have to give this one 8/10, an example being close double stars where 'barely' can readily become 'clearly' resolved. Fine planetary detail can also be made more visible where low magnification is a factor without the penalty of image degradation that used to be the case.
All in all I can't think of anything to criticise here. I expect there are Barlow lenses that are slightly better, but how much do you want to spend? This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
Apr 28, 2008Absolutely versatile and excellent!
Pros:Excellent mechanical and optical quality!
Cons:
Versatle!None!
Comments:What more can I say! This is probably the best barlow that I've ever used. It has so many features, it is amazing!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I use this barlow on my 100mm f/6 achromatic refractor. With its included adapter, I have used it with 1-1/4" eyepieces as well as without the adapter for 2" eyepieces. The brass compression rings are a nice touch. The barlow optics can be used with the normal tube assembly, or the optics can be removed and screwed directly to a 2" eyepiece. The tube without the optics can also be used as an extension tube. The machining is absolutely beautiful! This is truely a versatle tool that you shouldn't be without if you use 2" accessories!
I highly recommend it!Mar 24, 2008Great Barlow

Using my 6" skywatcher refractor with a 2" Antares diagonal, I tested both a Meade 32mm SWA and the Panoptic 22mm with the barlow. In a word I was quite impressed. I never once felt like the barlow was getting in the way of the beautiful image of M42 and the trapezium I was observing. Comfortable, sharp and contrasty is all I can say. With the 22 in place I swung over to Saturn. It was sharp as a tack. I now can't wait to try it out with my 16" dob. I am quite impressed with this barlow. Its definetly keeper and a best buy. I highly recommend this barlow to compliment your eyepiece collection. Bob MidiriDec 7, 20063 out of 4 people found this review usefulGSO 2" ED Barlow
Pros:Great clarity and colour accuracy, wide field 2" design. Excellent build quality/price.
Cons:I worry I might scratch it in the dark. Weight (scope balancing might be an issue).
Comments:I've been interested in astronomy in one way or another for 30+years now and for most of that time a Barlow lens was little more than an empty promise, let down by those long plastic tubes with tacky foil labels attached that promised to double or triple the 'power' of eyepieces inserted into them. What a waste of plastic!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
Anyway, things seem to have changed over the last several years as some sort of consensus seems to have been reached as to the minimum standard of usability required for optical equipment used by non-professional astronomers.
One of the prime examples of this can be seen in the rise of far eastern optical manufacturers such as GSO and for me their 2xED Barlow takes what they do best and then improves on it.
I got one of these Barlows about 6 months ago from Owl Astronomy Products (under their Knight Owl label) as it looked very tempting in the ads and promised all the right things, with it's 2" fitting making it even more versatile. I received it about a week after ordering and was immediately impressed with its perceived quality and the lens multi-coatings seemed to promise much.
All in all I can't think of anything to criticize here. I expect there are Barlow lenses that are slightly better, but how much do you want to spend?Sort bySpecifications
