So so
Pros:Good price; Bright, clear views.
Cons:Construction; Coatings
Comments:This was one of the first eyepieces I purchased after entering the hobby. I bought it along with 2 other GTO eyepieces and a Celestron standard barlow. They were an upgrade to the terrible eyepieces that came with my first scope. At that time, I knew little about the technical side of observations. I have since purchased a better 15mm eyepiece.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
This eyepiece produces very bright and clear views. In a slower scope such as an f/8 this eyepiece works fine. A very versatile eyepiece, it provides good views of galaxies and clusters. When used with a good barlow, it also works well on planets. I replaced it because with my f/6 dob I noticed some chromatic aberration and edge distortion.
You can tell it is an economy eyepiece by the construction. It is just fully coated and the coating appears to have a somewhat blue hue. Usually the sign of less a expensive coating, it is telling in high powered views. When viewing bright objects ghosting is often apparent.
However, it is not a bad eyepiece for the price and use.Sort by
