Close but no cigar
Pros:Good views of all DSOs. Works well with various filters. Bargain price. Good construction.
Cons:Excessive eye relief. Some curvature.
Comments:I purchased this product for use as a wide view finder eyepiece about 5 years ago when I first entered the hobby. I still use it today. I had previously used GTO eyepieces and in most cases, found them acceptable especially when considering their price. The EP has a good look and feel. It is fully multicoated with a soft rubber eye cup.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
This EP provides good views of almost any DSO. With it I am able to observe many faint galaxies and nebulaes in my highly light polluted front yard. Some curvature is evident in my fast F6 DOB, but it is not intrusive. In my slower F8 and F11 scopes no aberrations nor distortions are apparent. The EP worked well with the Orion SkyGlow and UltraBlock filters bringing in very faint objects. Very little ghosting was observable.
Eye position is a problem when used with my F6 Dob as occasional black-outs occur. Thus, long term views of faint objects are hard to achieve. This is especially a problem when fighting light pollution. When used at a dark site the EP's performance was much better. This is a decent EP for the money.Sort by
