Under-corrected objective, faulty clock drive

I purchased a Konus Konusmotor 90mm f/11.1 in 2005. I could never get a decent image of planets with this scope, though stars and nebulae appeared okay. But, planets looked quite bad using good quality orthoscopic oculars at powers above 100x. I knew there was a problem with the objective, so I contacted the seller to get a replacement and was asked to ship them the OTA. When the instrument returned to me with a new objective, I tried it out again and it performed just as badly as it did when it had the original. To make a long story short, I decided to replace the objective with a "Vixen-Spec" model. What an improvement. Then after several uses of the scope, the clock drive failed. I replaced it with a JMI electric drive.

I do not recommend purchasing this telescope. The poorly corrected objective and defective clock drive are some of the most important components of a telescope, and they should be of good quality on a scope of this value. I recommend purchasing a telescope like this one from a better manufacturer.
