Meade LXD55 Mount

4.0 LXD 55 offers a lot of bang for the buck...

Price is competitive. Features are extensive and it's reasonably portable.

It is noisy and Meade is the worst to have to deal with for problems

I've owned 5 different LXD 55's and have found it to be a very good value in a GOTO mount. When you consider all the features you get with the autostar connected, it's tough to find a better value. The only drawbacks of a LXD 55 are it's noisy when both motors are running and I think Meade overstates it's capacity. When used with a medium size refractor or small SCT (6" or less) the mount performs beautifully. The initial setup and alignment process can be tedious and time consuming and I find myself using the mount manually at least 50% of the time, but the features are nice to have when you need them. All in all, you would be hard pressed to find a better value!
