Fantastic eyepiece! Grab one if you can!
Pros:Large AFOV 84 degree, user friendly, good value
Cons:Discontinued, hard to find
Comments:I use this in my 8" f5.9 dob. It puts up great images 84 degree afov. Nearly razor sharp to the edge 98% or so. Pretty user friendly, just place eye in eyecup and a perfect image is shown. It is a little hard to see the entire FOV, but you see about 90 percent. I can't say that I have any issues with it. Highly recommended.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesMar 7, 2007Meade series 4000 8.8mm Ultra Wide
Pros:Wide comfortable sharp high contrast FOV
Cons:Not being made any longer!!
Comments:I have 3 favorite eyepieces out of all my collection. the 22 Panoptic, the Meade series 4000 ultrawide 14mm and the Meade Series 4000 Ultrawide 8.8mm. This is my favorite highpower globular buster with my 22" and 16" homemade dobs. I find this to be an incredible eyepiece, comfortable eye relief, very wide flat well corrected FOV. It performs great with the 22.5" F4.7 as well as the 16"F6.5. Through my 22.5" M13 with this eyepiece is breathtaking, resolved to the core, and almost fills the whole FOV. I can drive a truck through the six stars of the trapezium with this one. It also serves me quite well with my Antares 812GP refractor given me 3/4 of a degree FOV and 112 power. I can't believe there is a better eyepiece in this focal length, and I have seen them on the used market for $150 or less. Gobble one up if you get the chance.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesFeb 6, 20078.8mm 2" Meade Ultra
Pros:A perfect eyepiece, flawless. Works on any type telescope.
Cons:Might be heavy for some, but, that's what you get for a lot of glass.
Comments:Dollar for dollar, this is one of my three or four most used servicable eyepieces, and a best value. Flat field all the way to the edge, perfect for galaxies, galaxy field. Equally great on an Obsession, a C-11, a Meade ETX 105mm, a refractor, planets, moon, or any object. It's also fine with a 2" barlow. I heartily recommend it.
