MoonLite CF2 Tri Knob refractor focuser
Pros:Smooth, holds collimation, no wobble, looks great
Cons:They aren't cheap
Comments:I recently picked up a refractor telescope that already had a MoonLite Crayford dual speed tri-knob focuser installed. The focuser is a thing of machined beauty, its operation is as smooth as its looks. The dual-rate fine focuser makes critical focusing a snap. I have had this same version of refractor with its original rack and pinion focuser. The MoonLite is light years advanced. The collimation of the refractor never has the focuser end as its rate limiting step. There is NO wobble in this focuser tube that extends to 4.5 inches. The movement is buttery smooth, yet easily holds my Meade 14mm series 4000 "hand-grenade" eyepiece in critical focus position. I don't know if you could find a better focuser for a refractor. I also have a MoonLite on my homemade dob. The quality of these are superb. If you can only make one improvement to your Synta/Vixen/Orion type refractor, get the MoonLite Crayford refractor focuser - you will be quite glad you did. Bob Midiri
