Nikon Action Extreme 12x50
Pros:Armored, excellent quality, not too costly, decent strap and case.
Cons:About 25 to 35% off-center is not that great; Better on a tripod.
Comments:I purchased these wonderful binoculars from a member on the Cloudy Nights web site and they are just perfect for me. Street price is from $150-$260 new with used price at about 60 to 70%. These are a step up from the base 12 x 50 Action binoculars and are worth the extra money.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
They are waterproof, nitrogen filled, and the "O" ring is sealed. The weight comes in at about 36 oz. or 2 pounds 4 oz. Close focus is around 20 feet and these are rubber armored in case of a minor accident. They are also tripod adaptable and have an exit pupil of 4.2mm, with BAK4 prisms.
The middle 50 to 60% of the field is tack sharp, with the next 10 to 15% weaker and the last 25% poor. But for me, I always use the middle 50 to 60% anyway, so the balance doesn't bother me.
I've used these binoculars a dozen time since I've bought them and find the using a tripod is best with the 12 power for steady views. One can handhold them for a while, but you should use the tripod for extended viewing.
I really like these binoculars and can recommend them easily. The Nikon name means that you can be assured of a very decent pair of binocs, no matter the power. It also comes with a 25 year warranty with purchase.Sort by
