May 22, 2009Oberwerk 15x70 binoculars
Pros:Great optics,Good coatings,Very well made
Cons:Heavy,Need to buy a tripod,A touch costly
Comments:These are very, very nice binoculars for their size and weight. They're well manufactured and put together. The full multi-coatings are a very nice light green and seem to be put on very evenly.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The field of view is 4.3 degrees. They feature BAK4 porro prisms, are armored and weigh in at just over three pounds. This means that they should be used on a tripod most times. They can be handheld for short periods, but they come into their own on a tripod. The field is sharp on axis with minimum color seen on very bright objects such as the Moon. Jupiter and its four moons are easily seen. Most stars are pinpoint out to about 65% and sharpness falls off from there. The last 10% of the field around the edge is very poor.
Oberwerk seems to be making some very decent binoculars with very good quality control. These are very nice and well made binos. There are some out there that cost more, but for the beginner, these will work well. This review was provided courtesy of AgenaAstro.com
