Orion 100mm f/6 Achromatic Refractor OTA
Pros:Very good optics; Adjustable lens cell; Very portable
Cons:No Crayford focuser; No collapsible dew shield
Comments:This is a very versatile scope. It can go wide and deep for those expansive views of star clusters, and nebulae. In addition, it can also power up for those detailed views of lunar and planetary views. There is the inevitable blue haze around bright objects, which all fast achromats suffer from, but this can be tamed with the use of a good anti-fringing filter.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The scope has a 3.9" multicoated objective and a 2" rack and pinion focuser that is adequate. A nice feature is the adjustable lens cell that uses push/pull screws, something not usually found on scopes in this price range. The f/6 ratio is a nice compromise between wide fields of view and power.
The views with this scope are awesome!! It's not an apo....but it gets the job done.Sort by
