Orion Sirius ED80 EQ-G Computerized GoTo Refractor Telescope
Pros:Inexpensive, excellent optical quality, lightweight, durable, good for lunar solar or deep sky objects
Cons:None
Comments:The Orion ED80 80mm f/7.5 Apochromatic Refractor Telescope is a fantastic all around Apo Refractor; portable, tack sharp resolution and no false color. I purchased the scope as part of the kit that included the Sirius EQ-G GoTo mount. The Orion Sirius 80 mm ED Apo Refractor with a 80mm aperture and focal length of 600 mm provides a relatively fast focal ratio of 7.5. It will allow you to view superb images of deep sky objects with unguided exposures in the 2-3 minute range I’v used it for photographing the Moon, Saturn and her moons and it is great. I have pushed this little APO Refractor to 240x (which is beyond its theoretical limit) on good nights and obtained sharp images. It yields a fairly wide field of view, very little or no chromatic aberration and is well worth the investment. With the appropriate field flattener/reducer one can produce images that rival scopes costing 3 or 4 times as much.
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
The Sirius EQ-G mount and GoTo hand controller gives me effortless computerized navigation to celestial objects with a few button pushes on the illuminated hand controller. Internal dual-axis stepper motors move the telescope at up to 3.4° per second right to your target object, tracking it while you observe or photograph it. Periodic error correction (PEC), a port for an autoguider, and an illuminated polar axis scope for accurate polar aligning are features I find very useful.Sort by
