      5.0 Works great!

      Pros:

High quality telescope, plenty of aperture to explore with

      Cons:

      none

      Comments:

I own the 8" version of this scope. My mother liked it so much that she ordered one, but she wanted the 10" version. Her eyesight is bad and she was having trouble making out some of the nebula that I was able to see in the 8". The extra light gathering capability that 2 more inches provides truly does make a difference. Really brightened up the views and she was able to enjoy it much better.

I was able to do some comparisons between the 8 and 10 and there is a difference. While the resolution is the same (Jupiter has the same detail in both basically), the deep space objects are brighter which is very cool. You can see more because of it. It can also handle higher mags even better because of it too.

As for the scope itself its well made, tough and durable. The optics are very nice, the Crayford focuser works great, and the base is solid. I love the spring system. Its smooth yet firm enough to keep the scope under control. At complete horizontal positon I had a 2" 26mm lens inserted into a 2" Barlow and it didn't start to dip forward at all. Nice and stable.

Its a big daddy! When I first got my 8" Dob I thought it was a monster. Well wait til you put it next to a 10" Dob...now my 8" looks lightweight and portable in comparison! LOL Now I was still able to pick it up and move it in and out of the house pretty well, but it is much bulkier. Its hard to believe only 2" of aperture increase can make such a difference but it does.

We picked up a cheap handcart from a local hardware store which works perfect for wheeling it outside. We tested it and mom was able to get it in and out of the house, by herself, without much effort because of it. Very cool for days when I'm not around to help!

With this scope you are heading for deep space country for real. I highly recommend you get yourself a 2" 70 degree low mag EP like a 26mm or 32mm ASAP with this scope. Now we do have to back those two particular EPs out of the focuser, just a tad, for focus room but its no big deal. The views are absolutely incredible, especially the 2" 26mm..

We love the Orion line of scopes and this one is truly a keeper. You certainly can do some serious skyquesting with this scope. The Triffid Nebula, Orion, Lagoon, Dumbell, etc. all look AMAZING with this much aperture, and so does everything else we checked out. You will love it too! Well worth the extra baggage if you can afford it.

      5.0 SkyQuest XT10 Classic

      Pros:

A lot of light gathering. Good for the solar system and deep sky objects.

      Cons:

Size and weight but still manageable.

      Comments:

I find this scope to be an excellent value for a first timer in this hobby. The view on dark nights is breath-taking. Slightly large but still easily transportable. Smooth movements on both axis. You may want to put this one on a short stand for easier use. A couple of nice eyepieces will add to your viewing pleasure. Very easy to setup. Tension springs work well even when adding heavier EPs and a Telrad. Collimation is easy with this style of scope. The 2" Crayford focuser is smooth. I added a motor to mine to reduce the vibration when focusing and it really makes focusing a joy.

      5.0 Orion XT10

      Pros:

I like everything about this yard canon.

      Cons:

      None

      Comments:

What more could I say about a classic telescope other than, "you really need to get one of these"? This has to be one of the most popular scopes on the market. The light drawing power of this telescope is not only remarkable, it's affordable! Portability is a little tougher with the 10", but this is no toy!

      5.0 I'm In Love!

      Pros:

Ease of usability. Sturdy construction. Good, solid base.

      Cons:

A little heavy & difficult to transport, but that can't be helped.

      Comments:

I totally love my new 10" Dobsonian. Although I have been an amateur astronomer for well over 30 years, I just never made the leap into getting a big scope. My SkyQuest is extremely easy for a newcomer to the big scope world to use. Once I got the cross hairs in the finder scope aligned (thanks to some help from one of my fellow astro-buds) it's just a matter of point the scope at an object ~ and enjoy the glorious view!!!! At our star party the other evening I was able to show participants Venus, Saturn and its moons, Jupiter and its moons, and the coat-hanger (they didn't know about all the awesome deep sky stuff). Plus got to do some serious deep sky observing myself. I know I am going to have a lifetime of enjoyment from my SkyQuest 10!
