Orion SkyView Pro 6LT f/8 1200mm
Pros:Impressive views, holds collimation, nice options available, solid mount for CCD work!!
Cons:No real problems other than the two listed!
Comments:This is my current main telescope which I bought used but was well cared for!
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? Yes
I love the views this scope provides! This is not a wide field scope but shows DSOs and planets very well. It has a center-marked primary which I only had to collimate once since I bought it! It's a great performer for both CCD imaging and visually!
It compares with the 8" f/6 which I sold and bought this!! The views are just about the same using the same eyepieces and filters! The Skyview Pro mount also is great! All options available are installed! It's not the go-to mount because it's before the mid-04 model, but with the Intelliscope installed and the true track dual axis drives, this mount is great! Tracks very well. I used a 10mm SWA Agena EP and set it on Saturn, left and came back 1-1/2 hours later and Saturn was still in the middle of the FOV!! The tube is quite long and when the scope is straight up, you will need something to stand on and the dec drive plug-in needs to have a housing around where the cord plugs in! I just hope I don't snap the phone plug off the mount! All orion SVP mounts have this problem though! Other than these two little problems which are easy fixes, this scope is great for just about anyone!!Sort by
