Orion 8mm Stratus
Pros:68 degree FOV; Very nice design; Aberration free
Cons:A little heavy, but worth the weight
Comments:A very nice aberration free eyepiece that has quickly become one of my favorites. I use this eyepiece in my 8 and 10 inch reflectors, and the views are way beyond what I expected. The views are clear and crisp right to the edge of the field of view. The Stratus is a large eyepiece, in a 2" format, and is built very well. I fully intend on purchasing more of these. :)
Bottom Line: Would you recommend this item? YesFeb 17, 20088mm Stratus
Pros:Use with fast scopes, nice coatings, nice glass, price.
Cons:None really
Comments:The Orion 8mm Stratus eyepiece is sturdy and ruggedly built with great fit & finish. It is a large eyepiece yet it's not too heavy. I confirmed the 68° AFOV and 20mm eye relief. I placed the eyepiece in my Discovery 12.5 PDHQ f5 scope and the 8mm Stratus provided a slightly soft but generally aberration free view to the edge of the FOV exhibiting no astigmatism and only the smallest amount of coma. I was also pleasantly surprised to find the 8mm Stratus did not black out or kidney bean like some others I have used. Upon observing M42 I could make out all 6 stars of the trapezium and was quite surprised at how much of the nebula was actually in the FOV. The Stratus 8mm is a very enjoyable and comfortable eyepiece to use. I'd recommend this eyepiece to anyone who wants to stay in the $130 price range.
