      5.0 Pentax 14mm XW 70* FOV

      Pros:

Bright, crisp and clear, Ortho-like views, No false color.

      Cons:

Softer edge than the other XWs

      Comments:

As with all the XW's, the eyepieces are like widefield orthos. The light throughput, contrast and image sharpness is exceptional. They are all 70 degree field of view, NOT 82.

The 14mm is the only one in the series in which I notice any edge softness and it is only noticed when a bright object is in the outer field. This is in f/15 and f/10 scopes. The outer 10 or 15 % of the field is affected but not noticeable on DSOs or any object centered in the FOV. I have not found a replacement yet to meet it's other attributes in the 70* FOV category. As with any EP, it's in the eye of the beholder.

      4.0 Pentax SMC -WX 14mm

      Pros:

Very flat views from one side to the other with good views.

      Cons:

Kind of heavy, specially with my 2.5x Powermate in line.

      Comments:

After I get my scope all set up the first eyepiece that I grab for is my 14mm Pentax for most everything that I want to view. I think that you can't buy a better 14mm with its 82* view. Money well spent. About $300.00.
