SPC900NC web cam
Pros:Inexpensive; Light weight; Easy to use
Cons:None
Comments:Philips is a leader in inexpensive web cams for astrophotography. I've used the SPC900NC for lunar, planetary, and solar work; all very successfully. This little camera is easy to use, and very light weight. I would recommend this web cam to anyone interested in taking lunar, solar, or planetary images. The camera and software are very user-friendly.

Pros:Ease of use, quality of picture
Cons:None
Comments:This is a great camera to start imaging without a big price. It provides great shots of planets and the Moon. I would start off using the camera indoors to get used to the software and practice with the settings, and then attach it to a telescope. It is much easier to learn the software in light than in the dark. The camera can be modified for long exposure dso photography.

Pros:Very sensitive to near total dark and very easy to use! Plus the price :-)
Cons:The body has very thin plastic around the tripod adapter!
Comments:This is a great webcam or astronomy ccd imager!! As a webcam, the face tracking is unreal, great feature!! Has 90 fps and doesn't flicker at all. I like using it as a time lapse video recorder in the day and at night I pop off the lens cover and screw on the 1.25" telescope adapter and it's ready to use as fast as you can start the software!!

The automatic color and white balance works great even on a full moon!! Saturn and Jupiter were clear and had nice color for a camera that only cost $60 plus $20 for the nose piece. This is one nice all around great performer!!
The v-lounge software is simple and the chip is able to see stars without even using a telescope! I used k3ccd tools 3 trial which worked great but that's if you really need to spend the extra $50? Nice option though! I would recommend buying two of these, one for the telescope and one for a webcam! This is one purchase I'm glad I made!!Sort by
